Hey guys/gals i currently have a 2yr old...

P4 3.2
2gb crucial ram
Ati radeon 1600xt
asus pc4800 deluxe mobo
maxtor 200Gb HDD

And i now think its time for a new system, i will be using it for gaming and video editing converting etc

I have a budget of about £1000 which will be for everything but keyboard + mouse i will also require a new HD monitor within the budget that i can link my ps3 up to

Any chance some of you taleted ppl could conjure me up a system somewhere close to that budget? i have never OC'd before but im willing to have a go as im sure ill find a guide on here to help me

If you need to know anything else just ask i will be checking this thread throughout the day

Thanks a lot
Chris

Welcome to the forums. I know next to nothing about monitors but this one claims to be HD ready and LG do make good monitors in my experience. There is a little bit of room left in the budget but I think I've included everything you could need, with the spare cash you could either go for 4gb Ram or a larger hard drive as either would be useful for video editing. :)

Looks excellent m8 thanks for that, if i was to go for 4gb ram which would make sense using 64Bit Vista would i just double the one you chose or choose a 2x2Gb??

Also is that case a "good" one? cus it has a few mixed reviews next to its name and i dont mind paying that bit more

Thanks
Chris

For the Ram you could do it either way, I'd generally prefer to go for 2x2gb to allow for further expansion but you end up paying a fairly hefty premium compared to 4x1gb at the moment so it isn't really worth it. I'd just go 4x1gb if you do want 4gb now, the low price on Ram is only guaranteed up to this coming Thursday though and then it might not be on offer any longer.

The Zen is a pretty decent case for the price but you could also look at the Lian Li PC7+ which is around £50. :)

With absolute no dis-respect to semi pro wrestler and his building abilities can anybody see any reason to change any of this setup as this is a lot of money to spend and i want everything to be perfect

If theres no replies by tonight ill order this then

Thanks Chris

My understanding of a montior required to be "HD Ready" is that it must be HDCP compliant which most new monitors are. I'm not sure if HDMI is a requirement although the monitors tend to come with HDMI to DVI convertors. Because of resolutions though, you'll only have 720p maximum unless you fork out a serious amount of money for a monitor that can produce 1080 pixels on the vertical axis. Spec'd you up something below which includes a 22" monitor capable of DVI (HDCP) and 720p. The reason for the premium of the LG one that semi pro mentioned is that it comes with a built in TV tuner.

You will want to get that confirmed as I'm not great with monitors, but I'm near certain that monitors that are HDCP are basically HD @ 720p (or 1080 if you fork out for a monitor that is capable of that - but looking at a lot of money). It's £15 over budget, but if you can live with that then I don't think you'll be disappointed with this system specification.

If i was to OC the q6600 just to about 3.0/3.2 would i definately need more more cooling??? if so can you recommend the best way to do it and with which components

have tried to search the subject but the threads just turn into slangingmatches between members

Thanks
Chris

It isn't definite as the Q6600 is the lower wattage version but I'd still recommend some aftermarket cooling as you are running it beyond stock and it will have the additional benefit of being quieter to boot.

The Tuniq Tower or Noctua NH-U12F are both good coolers although you will probably need some thermal paste as well for them, Arctic Silver 5 or Arctic MX-2 are fine choices. :)

to save some money on this spec, you could get a cibox 22", there pretty nice, I have one, and I would recomend it, although at that price the sammy is probly a better deal, certainly looks better.
