Hi guys im new to the scene need help for spec'ing up a new pc preferably under £350?

Iv already got 2xSata 80Gb hard drives, what would be recommended with that combo shall i opt for a 320gb sata? i do require a lot of HD space.

Iv got a quiet power supply aswell. Also iv got corsair 1gb ddr ram are these compatible on the AM2 motherboards??

Hope you guys can help, lastly im looking to build a v.quiet desktop pc.

cheers.

I'm no AMD specialist but i don't think your RAM will be compatible with AM2 boards. I think they're all DDR2, and anyway DDR2 memory is so cheap these days it's not really a problem. You could probably sell that gig of DDR RAM to someone on the bay or on the MM as someone with an old PC would probably want it, espcially because everyone's getting Vista these days.

thanks for replying so quick guys!

im going to be using it for internet browsing, office applications, storing large video files, mainly using ms word for documents etc.

i prefer the amd setup was looking at amd 4200 or 4800? i need a new case etc as iv only got the parts above from my old setup.

The other specs are both good....but possibly a little overkill for your needs. I mean £75 on a GPU for word processing ?

For some reason image isnt working properly...
links here though.
If you want you could get an aftermarket cooler and run it even quieter, though i think thats an un-needed luxury at stock clocks.
Hard drives optional that barebone system has 2 IDE ports too, so you could just run both the 80gig hard drives.

how old is your silent psu by the way and what make is it?

Im really not sure you'll see any advantage from overclocking if your word processing, its like tuning a car to be able to go 500mph, and never going over the speed limit. Pointless.

Especially when your spending additional cash to do so (that heatsink also requires a fan btw). The crucial ballistix RAM will overclock to higher than youd ever use, and higher than the AMD processors can. Plus crucial ballistix fails horribly (trust me, ive got 4gig of it....spen most its like being RMA'd).

If your genuinely looking at overclocking(and have reason to do so) Intel processors are leaps and bounds better than AMD's processors for it. Build around an E2140 or something and youd get a nice computer.

PSU is also very important for overclocking, what brand is it ? And what watt is it ?

is the system below ok??

Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £54.99

Asus VW193S 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black

thats a mistake, im not sure what other fans i need to cool the system. Shall i get a rear and front fan, if so what size do i need? i dont want to get a lot of dust in the case which fans are recommended for quietness and dust protection??

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin £6.99 are supposedly quiet, as for dust protection just cut up some tights and fasten round the fan to act as dust filters or buy some.

the size fan you need will depend on the case you get or have which seems to be 120mm for your case, both intake and outtake.
