Newbie here, with lots of newbie questions, so apologies all round.

I dont game at all, so I am not looking for blisteringly fsat speeds, but I do want a good spec for recording/editing/playing back music, editing photos, as well as general surfing and email.

My current PC is below:-

... and what I am thinking of is this:-

image upload

keeping the memory and processor until funds recover.

Would that work, or do I need to change them at the same time?

Also, what difference does the motherboards chipset make? The ASUS I have suggested has a AMD 990FX Chipset, but I have seen others with 970 and 620 chipsets. I assume 'bigger is better', but in what way?

TIA

Wouldn't bother switching the motherboard, won't add anything additional really, invest that £100 elsewhere. SSD and new case will make a nice addition.

RAM is running at 1333Mhz, could always get some 8GB faster 1600Mhz RAM to help with photo editing.
Also suggest grabbing a Phenom x4 CPU, how much is your budget?

Thanks

I was thinking around £300 now(ish), probably more later.

Also I was going to grab a new OS sometime as XP is almost end of life. Probably W7 as I can't see I will use any of W8's extras (unless you know different)
