Newcastle - to do?

Recommend going to the Gate. Few nice places to eat. I would say Northumberland street. Normally on the weekend theres few entertainment stuff on, was a Guitar Hero and Keepie up competition on and that guy from Britains got talent (contourtionist - spelling) few weeks ago.

Me and my b/f are going into Town on sat, probably go to China Town like we always do for something to eat. Theres meant to be a few bands on within the next few weeks. There were gospel singers at the Monument when we were last up.

tbh the gate is utter crap for food, but it really depends on how much you want to spend to where I will advise you to goto.

The Baltic is probaly the first place I would recommend, the food isn't great but you won't get a better view in Town.

Apart from that give me a budget and I will show you the good stuff :)

also for nights out I would tend to stay around central station if you don't like noise, or goto the quayside for more lively atmosphere or if you are looking for something specific then I'm pretty sure town will offer something.

For club nights www.nucastle.co.uk has a going out section which covers most of the big clubs (I mean Trance/Dance/Hard House etc) none of this cheese carp.

Iv heard wokmanias gotten a lot better over recent months, and frankies and bennies is always sound :) For a one off atleast.
Im a chinatown fan, I like Laus because its warm moist and filthily bad for me :d

Very true. I found Francesca's quite nice.

The Quayside has some ok places but they are quite pricey for what they are. :)

Ah another Laus fan. Many a time have I been ill from eating a meal (it's not food poisoning etc, just I try to eat far more than I can handle).
 
Do none of you have any taste? King Neptune is the best in China Town Laus is a student haunt which you eat more than your body weight as you are horrible students.

I'm going with the girlfriend and didn't want to go over the top on the meal as i'm already paying for the shopping :p ... about £80 for both of us including a bottle of wine?

We will defiently be shopping on the sunday, have heard good things about the metro center from friends... although will give elmond a look if people think so?

Will be getting up there before lunch on the saturday so wouldn't mind having a look around and having a few things to do ! Don't want to spend the day drinking as some replies suggested ;)

Laus is a student haunt??? Iv rarely seen any other students in there tbh!
I only like all you can eats because starters make me wet, all those ribs and chicken wings OM NOM NOM, granted they are not the best iv ever hadd, but theres strength in numbers.
Ofcourse if I could have afforded I would have preferred somewhere nicer.. oh well Ill give neptunes a try at xmas when im a sailor ;)
 
Laus is the biggest student/young person haunt I know in town, and tbh saftey in numbers isn't your best argument there.

If 80 quid i would suggest the baltic for a main and bottle of wine, that would cover £80 quid but the view over the tyne at night will be worth it.

Odd, Laus always seems like its more populated with locals in my eyes, was a wedding reception in before, i was wetting myself at this mahooosive bride in her white dress squeezin past tables etc and everyone swankied up.. inside laus? Biggest student haunt = hancock :p

you been to the turkish resteraunt, i always fancied it, might be worth suggesting?

Are you insane, eldon square is totally outdated (apart from the tiny new bit) where as most of the metro centre is newish and has so many more shops.

Stick to the Metro Centre matey.

I dont really think theres that much more in metro than in eldon to be honest, and its a better day out in newc city centre. more places to eat and go sit etc.

The new bits open in eldon square? I havnt been for AGES, last time i was in newcastle was months ago to graduate.
 
I agree there are some really nice parts of Newcastle to shop in but Eldon isnt one of them, Northumberland St on the other hand is great but nowhere near as many shops as the Metro Centre.
 
i generally assumed anyone visiting eldon would also see northumberland street too, sorry, iv known newcastle like the back of my hand from a very young age, even without having lived there then.
I guess metro is probably more tourist friendly.

Is Baltic Rooftop still open? Last I had heard, they had move to street-level premises in Newcastle. That was a fantastic place. 150ish including drinks for two...but well worth it. Law and I went there for our fifth anniversary.

For a budget 80 including drinks I'd recommend Blue Coyote. Great atmosphere and fantastic food. Usually a pretty good beer/liquor selection. I don't drink wine so can't comment on that side of things.

Whomever recommended Eldon Square over the Metrocentre must be a decade behind reality...
