Newquay 'dress code' question

Newquay isn't what it's cracked up to be. When we first got there (had driven from Polzeath) we didn't see any girls for about 10 minutes, only a legion of chavs, GCSE students and a few odd adults. Obviously it was better in the clubs where they had strict ID policies, but they were still infested by large numbers of slappers 'n chavs. Maybe I'm just a stubborn public school tw** but that's just how I felt. I also had high expectations given all my mates who went after GCSEs 2 years before (funny that heh) said it was/would be awesome.

The other towns in Cornwall were great. Newquay was probably the worst night out compared to the rest. Don't follow the crowd, or at least try other places too.

Go there if you want a weiner fest, I counted, there is about 20 men to 1 woman here at the moment.

Exactly. That was the first thing we noticed as I said above.

Too true. I'm Cornish, lived in Truro for most of my life (about 10 miles from Newquay), and have only been for a night out in Newquay about 3 times. Cornwall's all about sitting on moonlit beaches in the middle of the night with a few cans and a few good friends. Why the hell did I move?

Oh yeah, I wanted a job. But still. It's a great place.

too true, chilling on the beach with an open fire, some beeaz and some good company is what Cornwall is all about (and don't litter)
 
Aye as a fellow Kernowian I hate it when people associate all of Cornwall with their limited experiences of Newquay. There really is so much more to the county than Newquay and a night out there is a far cry from what a proper Cornish get together is about.

Well, if this is true and we realise this after a night or two we will probably taxi around cornwall for a week

Chances are you'll still have a great time. There are still loads of decent people there, just don't be surprised when you pitch up to be greeted by a legion of chavs.

What is the weather like in Cornwall compared to the rest of the country? The weather websites says the average low in the South west is higher than most of the country but can you really feel the difference during the cold months?

If you're wearing dark socks just take them off then put them back on over your shoes. It's really stupid but it used to work for me. :p

Yup. Cornwall doesn't get many of those really bitingly cold days that I've noticed moving even just a bit further north. Unless on you're on Bodmin Moor of course.
Also, it never rains straight down. Ever.

Was down there myself with mr.tommo and some other mates... none of us are Chavs, we all hold down good jobs and are fairly well to do.

The area was most defiently not brimming with Chavs! There was some, as there is anywhere... and as for it being a sausage fest... go down the week before the schools/colleges break up ;)... that's when we were there and it almost certainly is not a sausage fest.

Second year running now and love the place... weather let us down this year (although we had 4/10 days that were good).. we'll probably be giving it a rest next year and doing somewhere with the weather but we'll be back :)

To the OP, Sailors is the best place IMO... also there's a bar to the left of Sailors that is actually sailors own bar, try that out one night. If you fancy a decent drink in a more laid back enviroment, then go to Buzio's which is at the top end just up from Barracuda (which is also a top night out, except the air con broke when we were there :p)
 
I echo the above.^^

Just something about the atmosphere of the place that I love. The only place I would avoid would be Barracuda where there did seem to be quite a few chavs... But you will find that in most nightclubs up and down the country.

If you go the right places you will have a great time. Dont Bother with the Beach club as it sucks. Sailors did us good pretty much everynight of the week... Even in the day they have a great outdoor decking area overlooking the beach where they serve decent hot meals.

If you go there open-minded and have a laugh with the people there, you will have a great time. And the 2 times that I have been now, which would be about 15 nights out in total.. I've Not seen one fight. :)

Most places close at 3 then its on to Red Square which is open till 4, then quite a few people wander down onto the beach after which can be fun :p

Well said, it is my misfortune to hail from st austell lol!

Thing is my opinion of newquay is very likely warped compared to others, firstly the nightlife is muchos better than st austell as you can appreciate, secondly I always go there during summer break when thousands of uni students raid newquay, far from a sausage fest then ;d

Had some good nights out in truro aswell too. :)

When was the last time you went there ?
The place is great with a proper mellow atmosphere, plenty of beach bum types for sure but Not chavvy at all.
