you'll have to pay whatever service you use. It's the only way

He's asking about Newsreaders but there are some ISP's that do have quite good servers.
NTL is one and my mate swears by PIPEX.
However, Easynews 4tw.

I found Newsleecher to be the best IMO

Tired a number of others but Newsleecher seemed to be the one that suited me best. It's not overly expensive (around £20 a year I believe) and new beta versions come out every month or so which keeps it running nice and any bugs are fixed quickly.

PIPEX although only seems to be 2 connections at ~20 KB/s each has very very long retention (10 GB/month free). I cant remember what but it is >1 month. ntl is reasonable, better speed, but poorer completion and retention.

I have access to both :) only just started re using them the other day tho

Pipex - I used to be a customer of theirs, you get 10gb per month of newsgroup service (including group updates), and have to pay for more, was 5gb for £3 or something similar.

Now I use a different ISP, who has an excellent newsgroup service for free (although you do pay a 'premium' price for broadband  ) and they are 100% unlimited, and uncapped.

I use Newsleecher, its by far the best.
My ISP is Zen, clock up over 200Gb a month sometimes manly from their newsgroups. Retention is only 1 week but thats usually fine, if I find something older I just sign up for a 3 day free trial from a random premium newsgroup provider lol :D

Been using Newsleecher for well over a year now, couldn't live without it to be honest. Whatever you do, don't use NZB-O-Matic, it's a complete Pile-O-****.
