Hey,

Just in the process of re-installing XP onto a machine for a friend of mine. I have formatted the hard-drive in my computer and am now running through the installation process. However I hit a problem. After choosing the partition for the install the installation hits a problem. I get a screen telling me that the setup program cant get access to the disc(HDD) and mentions SCSI and RAID drivers.

This leaves me baffled, I am using one hard-drive, on sata, it is a Maxtor Diamondmax plus 120gb. The mobo is an Asus K8V SE Deluxe. I am connecting the hard-drive to the sata port labelled sata1. Do I need other driver software? I really dont know what to do. Any help would be most appreciated. I am probably missing something simple but cant work it out.

It's been a while since I did it, but I seem to remember you need the SATA drivers on a floppy disk, at that point - it will then install them, and allow you to access the HD. Hopefully....:p
Good luck, hope that helps get you started - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

sounds promising, I presume these drivers are mobo specific, any hints on where I might be able to get them? The computer is old and has no software with it :P

The SATA controller on that board is one of the original Promise ones, it needs a floppy of drivers to be recognised by the XP installer. You'll be able to get them from the Asus site without too much bother.
