Next 360 dash update?

I would suggest that's more upto the games developer, not Microsoft (See Saints Row).
Yeah but MS should give us an option anyway so you can overide it in your dashboard. So many games are ruined by the tearing. Worst ones I have experienced are: Dead Rising, Lost Planet & Splinter Cell Double Agent. The reason they disable it is because it is a cheap way to get high FPS but at the expense of some very noticeable screen defects which on HDTVs is really painful to watch. I can see more and more game having this issue as the dev costs to optimise the game code so it does not slow down with vsync are massive. Its a very lazy way out for them.........

Your the only one then, they are all known for having shocking tearing, perhaps your too engrossed in the games to notice.

I didn't get any tearing on Dead Rising and can't remember any in Splinter Cell.
32WLT66 @ 1080i on Component.

Personally I think the problem is a 60Hz game one on 50Hz Monitors. I don't see many people with LCD TVs having the same issues. (Before anyone says, yes I did see tearing in Saints Row!)

Its not, I had tearing on Splinter Cell and Dead Rising (the two worse culprits) on both a Sony Bravia 40W and Panasonic PX60 Plasma, both through VGA (worse) and component (not as bad). They also both display on my current tv.

VGA cable makes it worse, some people notice it more than others, some people dont notice it at all despite it being there.

Dead Rising and Saint Row are worst for tearing imo

With the new larger hard drives on the way i would like the option to cache more the game on the hard disk. So that loading is speeded up and to get rid of those pause in oblivion when it loads the next part of the map. Ideally would like to be able to copy the entire game to hard drive so the drive doesn't have to be spin while playing games. This would make the xbox a lot quiter and remove the main complaint i have with the 360.

Could it be that Vsync isnt on from a performance standpoint? I know that when you enable Vsync on a PC the frame rate can take a hit due to tripple buffering?

Interesting. I definitely get tearing on VGA - the screen becomes disjointed about 1/3 the way from the top. I have a Dell 2405 which is a Samsung panel... Nothing so bad on component though.

Well I get tearing on both my 2405 & Samsung HDTV via VGA or Component also tried it on an old Sony Trinitron CRT via composite & still present.

Unsure why some notice and some do not but on the official 360 forums there are loads of threads about it as many have noticed these issues on Plasmas, LCDs, HDTVs & Projectors.

I wonder if the people who do not get it have an older dashboard as it seemed to happen after the last update for some....

Either way it is definately a huge issue for many as it really hurts the gfx seeing a large tear when you move around in these games. The developers typically disable vsync to give more FPS as it is a quick n easy fix as opposed to spending months optimising the code to achieve the same FPS.
