I've just went from a 5770 to a 6870 and now I get a score of 41FPS on Unigine Heaven.

if you want highest performance, make do with a 6850 for now and sell it to part fund an upgrade to a 7xxx series when they come out.
if you want something mid range now that'll last you a while go for the 6870 or 6950. both are good cards. this may help you decide, whether you want to spend the extra £ on the 6950

tiny difference in some games, moderate difference in others but the 6870 is still respectably fast so you wouldn't notice the difference while playing.
the 6950 2GB is more expensive and not worth the extra imho over the 1GB version unless you will be running very high resolution (ie multi monitor) or using a buttload of anti aliasing.
just my 2 cents
