Next COD subscription only

I believe this is to combat piracy.. as the game will come with 3 months free play. But you have to put in valid card details to authorise your account.

No idea if it will work or not.. i didnt buy the last one anyway but i do think some measure like this are nessesary to combat piracy.
Perfect, who could bare to play MW2 for 3 months.

i like the idea of buying a game, playing it, leaving it for a while then getting back into it.

If this is a financial success expect it to all change..

I'm pretty sure this rumor was doing the rounds the middle of last year before MW2 came out.

While Activision could make a great deal of money from it, let's not forget that they already have the best selling game ever, which will have generated more than a pretty penny or two. They are going to be releasing extra map content soon, which will cost us money to buy, no doubt with more again in future. Finally in the case of the 360, we already pay a subscription to the Live service, and in the past it's only ever been MMORPGs that have required a fee (Which is due to the fact they need a permanent team, constantly creating new content.)

In the case of COD, the subscription fee would go towards what exactly? Dedicated servers you would hope... But what else would you actually be getting? Well, I'd imagine you would get new map packs for free, rather than having to buy them, but at the end of the day its obvious that it's just cashing in on the players and not offering them anything that any free multiplayer online game or past COD already has.

I don't think it's anything more than a rumor.

More profit.

You have seen some of the comments Kotick has made in the recent past haven't you?

I think I made the point that it would clearly be making them more money. What I said is how can they justify to players that they are getting anything more for a service they have to pay for?

As big as COD is, it doesn't mean the players have to sit down and take it. There are plenty of free games and past CODs. I'll admit that it would probably certainly weed out some of the little ***** you get playing, as chances are they aren't going to get two credit card subscriptions out of their parents!

Eugh, So basically If you're in it for a single player game, The 3 month free sub will probably suit you, If you're in it for the online multiplayer fun, as most the COD crowd are, IW are gonna have their cash cow. Works for me, I will play the single player, and be bored of the multiplayer within 3 months.

No Free sub = No purchase for me.

The justification point was why I mentioned Kotick, there is clearly no interest from Activision in needing to justify things to the players, in fact there is barely any interest in the players at all beyond the absolute maximum amount of money you can possibly extract from them.

The trouble is, though you say 'it doesn't mean the players have to sit and take it', despite a massive organised boycott to 'not take' the utter gimping of the PC version of MW2, eventually everyone just did sit and take it in the end because ultimately they were too excited about a new MW game to do anything other than buy it, even though it was £10 overpriced and a pile of steaming crud.

I can only hope if true that it will be an epic fail, it will open the floodgates for other software houses otherwise.
We already pay enough for console games and the blooming DLC that is probably already on the game discs to begin with and yet the greedy barstools still want more.

No purchase from me if it has a sub, i don't care how good the game is.

Not a chance i'd pay it.£40 for a game,£30 a year for xbox live, however much for DLC not long after the game is released.
I'd just play something else.

There's no way I'd subscribe to any online game, especially on PC. You pay for your hardware, you pay for your Internet connection, you pay for the game, some people pay for extra security like premium versions of AV, you pay for any upgrades to your system in addition, and then they expect you to pay to play a game you've already paid for once?

I don't think so. Also, I'll be buying the Treyarch developed Call of Duty game when it comes out, supposedly this winter, but when Infinity Ward release their new game I will either be waiting until it's cheaper than £39.99 which could be a long time, or I'll just avoid it altogether unless it's absolutely epic. Modern Warfare 2 isn't rubbish, but it's an overpriced disappointment.

No chance.

Would people here be more inclined to pay if the sub meant they supplied dedicated servers?

Thats exactly what they will offer in return and everyone will buy it and moan about it afterwards.

I said early on in the MW2 thread they lobbed MW2 on P2P with **** matchmaking to then offer a Decicated subscription service which they will hype as the new messiah.

They can stick it tbh. 12 months or so ago I was one of a few voices in the WAW thread sticking up for Treyarch while people kept on banging about the gods at infinity ward.

Its frankly amazing how much damage Infinity Ward have done to their name in 12 months, especially with PC gamers.

I would not be surprised if MW3 your soilder came equipped with pants and a swiss army knife and you had to pay for his camo, download a gun and to further enhance the camping experience had to pay per bullet.

There will be no more killstreaks, attack chopper comes at a xmas bonus price of £40 per month with a 1 month only special offer of a gunner for a limited time period only.

Care package glitches will be sold on ebay to the highest bidder.

Inifinity ward are worse than EA and they get loads of flak on here. Atleast Treyarch, EA and even those ****wits that made gears continue to support their products.

Infinity Turd chucked out one map pack for COD4.

Roll on mw3.

I'm guessing if they did this, people would either just continue to play MW2 online or jump ship to Medal of Honors new outing :p

I'd never buy into a subscription experience I only bought MW2 because it was rude not to at £26 given the resale value.

They made an Absolute Fortune out of this Series, They are just trying to Guarantee there customers/money the Greedy *****.
by rights they should be releasing a map pack/mods etc as a Thank you to those that have supported them & made them rich.
I didn't buy the last one as I think it's watered down crap for the masses.
They can kiss my skinny white ****.

More likely the marketing department have started the rumour to gauge public opinion & whether they would get away with it or not. ******** !!!

I'm not at all surprised, this is Activisions main cash cow and they'll milk it for all it's worth. I remember the uproar from PC gamers when they said they wouldn't include dedicated servers, nearly 200,000 people signed the petition, it was featured in gaming magazines and videos all over the place yet when the game came out lo and behold every person who 'boycotted' it was now playing it.

I do doubt that they'll do this though, however I can see this franchise turning into another Halo, gradually getting worse and worse.
