Now imo, That comes across to me like hes saying British people believe or are to stupid to realise that the best football doesnt come out of British Managers all the time because we are the only nation that have it deep into our history the people of Britain or England dont expect an English manager totally because we beilieve we are the best, imo if the players are English, the manager has to be aswell, kind of ironic thinking of a swede saying "LETS DO IT FOR OUR COUNTRY" dont you think?

Keggie for england manager,

There can be only one!;)

Should change the thread title to 'Next Scapegoat'.

It will make no difference who is brought in as they will have to suffer every paper and pundit telling them they're picking the wrong players or playing the wrong team.

No this time the blame for any world cup failure will be on the News of the World, or having a foreign manager (like English managers have done any better). :p

Either that, the referee or the "cheating divers" that plague foreign teams. ;)

The problem for me is that while I'm an advocate of the manager being English (a while back when the squad was full of players he'd worked with at MU, I wanted Mclaren....), none of the English names on that list really sit up and grab me. Sam A Lardarse? Can't wait to see the fantastic football we'll play with Crouch and Davies up front, Nolan and some thug in central midfield, a diver on the left to win freekicks and then Beckham to swing the balls in for the front two. Curbishley never convinces me, and it's too soon for Pearce.

As far as foreigners go, O'Neill, Hitzfeld and Hiddink all have very good credentials. Cappello is the best of the lot but he is planning to retire from management soon I believe. I can't see O'Neill being available though due to family commitments, and I'm convinced Hitzfeld is being lined up to take over from SAF when he leaves MU.

edit: I'm actually a big fan of Steve Coppell, but I don't think he is a big enough name for the FA.

Considering the only option I'd even want to entertain from the above list is O'Neill with Pearce as assistant and that's never happening then it's going to have to be me.

The real problem is that the list of candidates is littered with names that you wouldn't want or would not take the job

O'Neill is an interesting thought in that he is out of football to spend more time with his wife/family so maybe a role involving less hours may suit him , add Pearce as his assistant and we could have something

Good choice my son, although Pearce may want more time as a Manager first.

None of the English candidates are up to the job for me, which is a shame.
