Next game suggestions ? - F.P.S

I was somewhat suprised to see that you can now buy Condemned for £7.99. I have it on the 360 but for that price i'll play it through again on the PC.

I've recently started 'Call Of Juarez'.It's an FPS based in the Wild West, you actually play 2 characters,Billy and Reverand Ray! Billys sequences are based around stealth,Rays are full on run and gun sequences,it's certainly different and as far as I'm concerned provides great entertainment.

Graphically stunning too, although it is a bit of a resource hog. There is a tweakguide though.

PainKiller came today.

Obviously as I have kids, Im not allowed to play it properly, but I have installed it and done 2 bits of the graveyard... Looks ok actually... Bit freaky I suppose... Far too early to tell if I will actually like it, but its on daydreamer and its fairly frantic already, so should be a hoot.

Cheers.

HalfLife 2 etc and anythign that uses the steam engine as perhaps *** worse resource hogs I know... Certainly the most RSC Heavy I have anyway. Cant be any worse than that surely? - The steam engine takes more out of the CPU than the games do half the time.

Anyway... I will keep my eyes out for that one too thanks, although I will look into it first... Not sure if it will be cup of tea so to speak.. Wild west? - I didnt like GUN purely on that thought.

I got condemned on order, and I got Dark Messiah but CD1 wont read, never has and Its been a while so I cant get it replaced.

No, hang on...

Ah, no, this one is just called MESSIAH... Its a got a baby on the front.

Not the same?

Ok, I will try out Dark Messiah then.

It's very much an oldsk00l combat fest where the focus is on hordes of enemies swarming towards you, and you blowing their limbs off with shotguns, pinning them to walls with stakes etc. If you play through the game and end up enjoying it then I'd recommend checking out Serious Sam Gold and Serious Sam 2 which are similar, but less freaky and more tongue in cheek.

Incidentally I thought the graveyard level was one of the worst so it's worth sticking with it to see a few more levels.

Oldskool? Yes, very much hack & slash... I liked what I saw, but could easily see that too much of this lot would not make its stayability that high on the ladder.

Ok, so this you think is the worst level?

Great, I will stick with it regardless and see what comes up next yeah?

Cheers dude.

Hey, I played through freedom fighters last night... Cam to abotu the second to last level on hard and now Im at a standstill... Its just too hard now cos a chopper guns me down before I can do anything... Go round the corner and you come to face a load of enemies and your entire squad gets wiped out and even if you somehow miraculously survive enough to save a few of your squad, your are gunned down by the chopper.

Tried it on easy and I never had such a problem at all???

Sodding thigns.

It seems Freedom Fighters has gained a bit of a cult following since it's release, initially it was received with average reviews, but in a recent Pczone Will Porter described it as "one of the best games you've probably never played!"

Apparently the music is a bit special too!

If it's good enough for FatRakoon and Will Porter then it'll deffo be good enough for me! managed to track down a brand new shrink wrapped copy from the great river store,so i'll be giving this a play soon.

Another FPS that might appeal to you FatRakoon is 'Call Of Cthulhu' 'Dark Corners Of The Earth'.Link

Yeah, the music is actually good.

Cant be bothered to check it out right now, but the musician they got is a known musician, who was chosen because he could give the game the feel they wanted... It works too!

Some sweet stuff in there actually.

Call of the Cthulu?

I used to play that, as well as AD&D and Merp and of course WH40K back in colledge days way back 20 odd years ago... Loved it back then. Board games of course!

Is this similar?

I will check that out too... Got to first recover some cash cos I have already spent out this months spending money ( Bloody Kawasaki has a £680 bill and the bike is not even worth that! )

condemned is like fear but with less corridoor after corridoor and more battering crazed hobo's that jump out at you in complete darkness with just about anything you can find such as a lead pipe or a sledge hammer

So, you've been to Barnsley then? Or "The Manor" in Sheffield? :D

As for FPS, i'd go for CellFactor and use the software emulation mode (although it does get boring after a while playing the same level). Why not try Halo? Still good for a laugh. Or Quake 4! Didn't anyone mention Quake 4? That's always good for run and gun through massive groups of enemies.

Or just try GMod9, a free mod for CSS/HL2. Just load up a level in the editor, disable AI, spawn loads of enemies at one point, go back to your base, giev yourself loads of weapons, enable AI, and enjoy! :D Or just do all that but spawn some vehicles for yourself as well. It's always good on de_dust. :D

I got Freedom Fighters for £2.50 at christmas and it really is great. Got Painkiller and Painkiller BOOH and really enjoying them as well. Great looking games and great sound too. Borrowed Prey off a mate recently and I havent had the urge to play it really. Seems a bit dull.

its not bad try it

Not Bad? That game is just stunning in every way. Its up there with HL2 and FarCry for me. Pity Vin Diesel's in it but you cant have everything.

Hey you guys...

Anybody fancy giving me a bit of a tip?

PainKiller... Got a part where I just cannot kill this big geezer.... I think its the end of the catacombs actualy????

Im in a sort of firey pit and there is a kind of walkway into the middle of the fire-pit, to the side is a kind of safe-zone with a small ladder that lets you get just out of the demons reach, and at the top of the roof, is a star.

Now, I shot the star and sunlight comes down.

Im thinking that if I can get the demon into the light, but I just cant get him there? - I have shot down the star trap door down and some timber has fallen across in a way that enables me to jump from the middle to the ladder-safe-zone area, in a kind of last minute as he goes into the light, but not sure as the second time I did this, all the timber fell away.

Anyway, I have just been on this part for half an hour now and unless its so obvious that Im missing the whole thing, Im at a loss?

Any clues?

S'okay now... I just went back on it, gave it another shot and I killed the guy straight away! - typical.

I just finished the cathedral level too! - great one that but too short... Just started in the cemetary.

Im loving this game... Just all-out killing. Nice one!

PAINKILLER:
I have just got past the Train station...

Now, thats is a level and a half!

absolutely looney.

Got to be one of the best and most enjoyable games I have played in a VERY LONG TIME - better graphics than HL2 I recon

Im on easy, and perhaps its too simple at times, but I can see now that I need to do this or that to get the cards and the cards will help me along in the proper game, so as soon as I have done the game I am going through it all again on hard.

CONDEMNED : CRIMINAL ORIGINS
The graphics on this are even better ( In ways ) than PainKiller... However, the game itself isnt really crying out to me so much.

I've not played it THAT much to be honest, so who knows? - I started with 7 or 8 bullets, and wasted 2 or was it 3 on the first criminal and then another 3 on *** second and the third one has just gone out of reach and I cant get past the scaffolding, and I stopped it there...

I am unsure as to wether I can get into the investigation-type side of it and playing the role of a guy who should be retiring any day now has kind of put me off before I even started to get into it, but who knows??? - never say never.

NEXT UP : PAINKILLER BATTLE OUT OF HELL - DEFO!

HAR HAR

Looks like I owe HangTime a beer.

I have just finished PainKiller : Battle out of hell.

This game, has hit me as perhaps one of the most near-perfect games I have ever played... I cannot get over just how much I love it!!!

Ok, so, I have only played on it in poncey mode so far, which (a) didnt really require any cards, and (b) was too easy, however, it has allowed me to get through the game and I now know ( he says ) what is needed to complete the game proper.

Sweet mate.

Condemned. Not my cup of tea Im afraid... Brilliant graphics though. Its just not appealing to me all that much.

I showed my mate PainKiller and that Im after some more FPS games and he has Serious Sam 1+2 and Max Payne.

Also I still have not done PREY either so I will work on those soon... Just got to finish PK on hard.

Thanks all.
