Next Gen Nvidia GPU Specs (G80, G90)!

lol, why would NV go so quickly from 8 series to 9 series?!!!!! We're still only on 7 series now, and probably will be for quite a few more months!!!! Seems like an over-specced 'rumour' - it's not even realistic to me!

we have had the 7800 and the 7900 and the spin offs that followed then ie 7600gt and 7300gs
7xxx is quite an old design. :)
wont be upgrading though, as drool worthy as the specs are, i have a 12x10 screen and a x1900xtx so there is absolutly no need unless im insane at the time or i win the lottery.

nVidia have stated that their next GPU will NOT be a unified shader design. i.e. it will still have descrete pixel, vertex and texture units.

just beans and bread for me then for the rest of the year :(

hopefully they will have an intergrated PPU, i rekon the G90 will probabilly have one (hopefully).

Well, it's meant to be a "hybrid" design apparently, so a sort of mix between the two.

was pretty sure the G80 wasnt going to have a unified architecture... rather it just appears as that through software? o_0
so if thats wrong, or at least has the spin doctor treatment.... then what about the rest of it. more than just speculation :p

are these specs like the ones released for the 7900GTX which supposedly had 36 pixel processors? paaaaa, think ill sit back and wait until the actual card is released...

you got that wrong mate, the ATi card was supposed to have 32pipes but speculation on its failurerate led ati to drop to 16 pipes.

All these people going crazy about buying sm3.0 cards even though theres like no games that use them, now the new cards coming out will do sm4.0!

Pah, upgrades, pah new cards, dam when will I ever just have a few months peace knowing I have the best card I could get. Oh well onwards with the tech, but at least im still not playing quake 2 style gfx games, gotta admit though I like the eye candy as we move along with the hardware. Should they not just do once yearly releases though and make the upgrade pay big time when you empty your wallet, maybe even 18 month cycles, would make the cards cheaper, as they would get longer production runs of the generation they released. Or maybe not, I don't know, whatever, im rambling

I remember the 32 pipes 750mhz core 7900gtx hype! :D

that was the one. the 32 pipe 7900. All the major reviewers even reported it.

GeForce 7900 Speculation
Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn

We are closing in on the CeBIT exhibit next month where NVIDIA will launch several new graphics cards. Tiny bits of information start to leak here and there and when you compile them all you'll always get a reasonable overview of what to expect from the new products.

Now we know that G71 is the the GeForce 7900 series which will be manufacturerd at a 90nm fabrication process, the GeForce 7800 GTX was .11 micron, this inevitably ran into problems with the GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB. Producing them in large volumes was an issue and likely is also the reason why see so little of these boards available. The 90nm process should help bigtime and a 650-700MHz core clock speed for the GeForce 7900 GTX is very do-able. I believe there will be two versions .. 7900 GTX and GT with 32 and 24 pixel pipelines respectively.

NVIDIA is very likely to be bumping up the number of complete pixel pipelines. GeForce 7800 GTX featured 24 pipelines, I think it's a safe bet to state that 32 with the GeForce 7900 for the top notch model is a fact. The next factor is of course framebuffer e.g. memory .. There are claims there will be 256MB and 512MB versions made, this will be the GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB and the GeForce 7900 GT with 256MB. The memory is a sure factor ... it will will feature a clockspeed of 800 MHz of GDDR3 memory for the top model. So 1.6GHz memory and 512MB GDDR3 1.1ns memory while the GeForce 7900 GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 1.32GHz memory with 256MB GDDR3 1.4ns memory.

It's suffice to say that if these little speculation here are right and NVIDIA can actually deliver enough volume of the chips this time this is going to be a killer series of graphics cards.

March 9th at CeBIT people, then NVIDIA will launch the new products, also expected to be announced at that point are the GeForce 7600 (photos) series.

So,... says it all really. Sounds like people just pluck this out of the sky...

Did anyone else notice on the G90 specs it says "GDDR4 XDR2". Im taking this with a truckload of salt. Infact, the worlds oceans combined do not contain enough salt for me to take this with.
It looks like someone just took an educated guess at what the Geforce 8 and 9 might be like.

And the link doesn't work!

these new cards are gonna be awesome, its what ive been waiting for..

why is it that games never run 60fps when you buy a new card for a specific game? i think thats poor.. its like when i bought my 6800gt and doom 3 sure it would usually be smooth but its not constantly over 60fps and sometimes drags.. they need to sort this out.

well doom amd quake 4 are capped at 60fps so it will never actually go over 60fps.

as for the games never running 'fast' enough thats usually down to the developer not working with the gfx card manufactuer optimizing the code for the hardware.

PGR3 - When did that come out on the PC?

Those cards are going to be obscenely expensive if they have PPU's on them.

Well from articles ive seen in the past G80 is supposed to be dual GPU so we wont need to use 2 in SLI, i dont know if they will take advantage of that if it happens though as the price could soar on just 1 card with 2 cores.

the R600 is the one thats supposed to have the PPU, if true it seems both companies are going their own route again.
