Next-Gen... When?

Hi,

Just wondering when the true next-gen cards will be out?

My bro wants an upgrade from his X850XT PE and I want him to have my 2900XT & I want to replace that with a next-gen card.

I think he might hold out until christmas this year but that might be pushing it.

Start/end of summer would be better...

I had a look on google but can't find anything.

Will contuine loking though

The new Nvidia cards will hopefully be out March - Q2 but thats pending reliable sources and is subject to change. to best contender so far is the 3870 X2. if you want some power i would wait untill crossfire is scalable with this card and hook two of them together.

depends really what resolution you are using as that maybe an overkill. and your budget.

In march the 9800GX2 which is just two cards bolted together will be out, but around Q2 to the end of Q2, the R700 and G100 from ati and nvidia will be out around then but how they will perform no one knows.

But the best of the best at the moment and which looks like it will stay that way for another 6 months ish is the 3870X2, it could prossibly be the best for more than 6 months depending on if the new cards will be better or not.

Seeing as I only game at 1400x900 I don't need anything too great and the 2900XT is holding its own atm.

Only reason I ask is my bro wants to upgrade & if he gets a 3850/3870 then I have no one to sell my 2900xt to He says his card is getting worse & he only plays RPG type games. TF2 is going alright on it though he said

If the G100/R700 are out by the latest of xmas I might be able to convince him to stay on his X850XT. So people think they will? Has there been NO release date/time at all?

Maybe he could buy my 2900XT end of summer, I'll nick his X850XT & just play GTA:IV on the xbox for months

The answer is that no-one really knows when, my guess would be middle of the year at some point when nvidia / ati force each other to release something new and shiny, atm it seems to be a lot of 2xcores on a card which I have never personally been a fan of. /rant over

Cheers for clearing that up. I think I'll make him wait as long as possible then.

On a completly different note, what is better:

1650 pro
2400 pro
3400

Or is there something from nvidia for the same price?

Need something that can play a few older games for the g/f @ a res of around 1400x900.
