Next-Gen When

Not this year. :p

No seriously, I reckon end of 2012 at the earliest but probably 2013. But there will be a new Wii out first.

LOL Thoughts on pad before the original xbox was released?

I remember before the original Xbox came out I refused to play FPS on console, Half-Life was atrocious on PS2. Goldeneye was fun but controlled horribly.

Better question is why was I even trying to play Half-Life on a console?

I played Counter Stirke Source for years and always said I couldn't play an FPS on a console......Well I can, I pay COD all the time on the PS3, you cant react anything like you can on the PC and if you put a team playing on a PC vs a team playing on the PS3/360 there would only be one winner!

Why indeed, I guess its a chance for valve to take advantage of the consoles and make some more money. I wouldn't dream of playing HL2 on a console.....Main reason I play COD on the PS3 is because my mates do, I play with them.

Great question.

That was a great game.

It's a really weird position at the moment, for hardware across all platforms.

The PC has never been as cost effective as it is right now, you can build a system that surpasses the power of the 360 and PS3 for peanuts, yet in the past this was not possible, you couldn't build a cheap and powerful PC that would match or beat the equivalent consoles at the time, stuff simply cost way too much.

This is what happens when no 'next gen' is in sight, PC hardware has completely eclipsed the console hardware far quicker than any generation before to the point where a not even considered mid range graphics card (8800GT) is considerably better than what both the PS3 and 360 are capable of.

Agree. However what I fear is that if the consoles became very powerful next gen, then the future games released/ports may max out your current pc systems quicker than if we currently stayed with PS3/Xbox360 for the time being. So we could end up with i5 750 or i7 920 @4Ghz struggling with some of the future games sooner let alone Core 2 series.

As I recently purchased a 2nd hand Q6600 and overclocked it to 3.4Ghz, I wouldn't want it struggling so soon with future games or even my 5850 for that matter, if you get my point.
