When are/will the next generation games consoles be coming out if there will be any? The PS3, xbox 360 and Wii have been out for about 3 years now..

2/3 years at the minimum. The current crop are doing far too well and are still building the foundations and userbase. It's been a difficult generation but frankly it's the best. I love my 360 and I hope it's around for a good while longer.

PS1 released to retail in December 1994.
PS2 released to retail on March 2000, JP very low availability.
PS3 released to retail on November 2006.

So PS4, 2012 at the earliest.

You would have heard about it if we knew anything :p

I don't think it'll be for a long while, Wii is still raking it in, PS3 was always intended to have a long life cycle and Natal seems to be MS main focus. Another 2 years at least I'd say.

As far as I am aware MS are planning on a new 360 with NATAL support, but apart from that there is 0 news on the new console front.

Well the Natal will work on all 360's. I thought the rumoured new one was just going to include Natal in the package or something?

where was it i saw them say that the 360 wasnt even halfway through its life cycle yet? might've been cnet, let me see if i can dig out the link

Could be something coming called the Xbox 360+ but that is just a version with Natal included, I think. They're practically doing a whole relaunch of the console so I'd say another 3 years after MS & Sony launch their motion control - 2013 at the earliest.

They don't need to be superseded yet. It wouldn't be worth it. I'd say about 2014-2015

There was an article about this on Game Central (teletext) the other day and the writer view was there won't really be another generation of consoles in the traditional sense. The current XBOX and PS3 just cost too much to develop games for now and the general public has shown through the popularity of the Wii, PS2 (which still often outsells the PS3) and the Xbox live type games that they don't care too much about graphics. The view is that the Xbox and PS3 will just be repackaged with NATAL and whatever Sony calling its version in the next two years.

Overall what they said seemed to make sense to me.

Hopefully that's not the case. I love console launches and would have all 3 replaced tomorrow if given the choice. 1080p and a constant 60 fps isn't too much to ask :)

Well, not too long ago I was thinking would be nice to have some new consoles, but now am thinking would be good to have a couple of years more.

Only last year started making the move from pc gaming to console gaming, and guess I still had a bit of the pc upgrade itch. Have now purcahsed a PS3 as well and don't know if I will ever make the move back to PC gaming.

Might actually manage to save some money now with having both consoles and not gaming on PC, but the true test will be when DX11 cards come out - I still have the desire to play Crysis on full whack :(

I'm hoping the next consoles will be fully 3D capable. There's a game coming out on XBLA/PSN which is 3D, providing you have the necessary tele to see it. That'll be the next big thing after HDTV.

People still don't use HDTVs with their consoles as the user base is young teenagers primarily. They see no point in moving on until the user base catches up.

XBox 360 is the only reason I got a HDTV but I didn't have one for 12 months prior despite living at home with my parents and working full time. Now I have my own place I managed to get myself one, but only just.

There's no point to make games look better and develop the gfx and processing platform till the user base can appreciate it, as silly as it sounds. I'm happy with what we've got and it will do current developers good to get the most of out what we have.

I thought Forza 2 was great looking when it landed and all we could expect from the 360, and they've at least doubled the quality and detail in FM3 from what we've seen. This level of optimisation at a playable frame rate is what some games are lacking and it's not down to the hardware, it's more the reused/hacked game engines that aren't best suited.

It takes years to make modern games too, esp if they need to make the game engine to suit it. We've still got some of the best games to come yet and I think the console makers know this. In 3 years will be drooling over fake renders of what the next consoles will be like.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo release an HD Wii within the next year or 2, while still building and supporting the cheaper, current Wii.

As for the 360 or PS3, I think it will be a good while!

Hopefully a long while yet, i'm still very pleased with my consoles in every way, good games are still being produced, the graphics aren't too far behind PCs yet and the online is still very populated on both. I remember when the PS3 came out, the PS2 looked shocking in comparison to PC games and the complete lack of online really made it only viable for exclusive games, multi platforms were a no brainer for the PC back then, but the differences are still too small for me to warrant an upgrade this time around.

Hell, i've only had my 360 for less than a month.

DUP i don't think the issue is that people haven't got HDTV but that it cost too much to make the games.

With regards to the Wii there lots of talk of a Wii that can output HD, But before you get to excited the aim seems to be to render the games internaly at 480p and then upscale them to 1080p etc.
