Next gpu range or price drop

Been a lot of price cutting on ati's cards lately with more rumoured so i am not sure they are going to wait till sept, oct to release the 5xxx series as by some accounts they are all sorted and ready to be mass produced. From a business point of view it makes sense for an earlier rather then later release as they could have the first dx11 card and have the refresh of that gen ready to fight nv's next card. I still see july or august as probable release dates for the 5xxx series with an X2 varient in sept, oct.

Anything to base a July relase date on

There have been suggestions in both fud and inquirer although they can't seem to make their mind up but also the fact ati had a card at e3 running says they have the final product done and ready. IF they do have it ready and it's a case of starting the manufactur then it would make sense to release it sooner rather then later but sometimes sense doesn't come into it i guess it depends on what info they have on nv's g3xx as to whether they feel they need too or not.

The only reason for price drops on ATI cards now - and i noticed it recently - must be, that ATI must be planning on releasing the 58XX cards sooner rather than later.

Yeah there have been a lot of price cuts lately and one more rumored to be coming very soon i also took that to mean they want to clear stock prior to a release.

Some of the recent price drops on cards have being manufacturer's price cuts but most of the savings have come from exchange rates changes.

$1.65 to £1 compared with $1.4 only a month ago. In theory that means a 17.8% price cut so a card which was £160 a month ago should be £131.52 if the exchange rate cuts are passed on and retailers don't keep the extra money.

To me, prices of graphics cards haven't dropped much more than the exchange rate.

What I want to know, is why isn't a £100 mobo from a month ago now £82????? I guess mobos don;t shift in the same quantities as gpus so it takes longer for the exchange rate drops to filter through.

Same Q re PSUs, these seem to be vastly more expensive than 6 months ago!
