this was taken on a d5100 with the 70-300 vr at f5.6 and at 300mm. just remember on a dx camera the 70-300 acts like a 105-450 as its a full frame lens.

If your after a 70-300 then consider the Tamron 70-300 VC USD I've been very impressed with mine on my D600 and is meant to be on par with or slightly better than the Nikon.

Well, its actually because it's a crop sensor body. Whether or not the lens is intended for a DX body, has no relevance here.

Well, I ended up just going for the 55-300 VRII again for now, I'm looking forward to testing out the extra reach. I will be selling the 55-200 VR. The extra cost of the other lenses in question just wasn't feasible right now. Saving up to move house is slightly more important unfortunately.

I may consider a non Nikon lens at some point but for now I'd like to stick with the Nikon lenses. Hopefully I will get a chance to test some sigma/tamron glass at some point.

When I win the lottery I'll be able to buy all the lenses I could ever want! hehe
