I'm currently running the setup in my sig and up to now I've not noticed a problem running any of my games until I got Bad Company 2 in the Steam sale and it doesnt seem to run too smoothly! :(

Anyway, I'd like some advice on the best bang for buck upgrade for me please :p

A few of my mates have gone for the GTX 460's but I've read about a new ATi card thats supposedly better at a similar price point!?!?

Budget realistically £150 - £200!

Any recommendations welcome :)

Thanks.....

Well my GTX275 used to run it smoothly at 1900x1200 high settings, so anything from that point onwards will do it.

460 though? If you can wait a bit then the 560 looks like its going to be a good card.

An overclock would help a little but with a 260GTX and 1080p screen, I would think that this is already much more GPU limited.

Well for the money:
MSI 5850: 125 atm but soon to be 150;
MSI 460 Talon Attack: 155;

Decent price for the HIS 6870: 176

If you don't mind the warmth and want to overclock:
Gainward 470: 200;
EDIT: MSI 470 is at 188 with a better cooler. Better buy

Just running BFBC2 on my e4300.. the difference from 2.8 to 3.2 is very noticable. I would really try and get to at least 3Ghz if not 3.2Ghz, and that will vastly improve how the game plays. When i ran it at 1.8 (default clock) it was like a slideshow on a 4870.

Also.. a 260 is not really enough to play it smoothly on high settings, but you could try lowering the res to the next aspect ratio down from your monitors default (if you have an TFT screen). The gfx don't really look that much worse for the res as they are 'kind of' cartoony anyway.

If you feel you must upgrade, then I would try and either bag one of the MSI 5850 on offer today (last day), or perhaps grab a 2nd 260 if you can make use of it.

but as said.. the cpu is really holding you back (in BC2) ... would really be beneficial to clock it.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I've not bothered with more overclocking mainly coz I didnt think it was going to make much of a difference!
I just ramped it up to 2.7GHz because I was comfortable with the temperatures and wasnt playing anything that needed any extra oomph! (I'm not the best at applying the thermal paste - bit heavy handed! ;))

I'll ramp up the CPU to 3.0GHz+ and see how that affects things........but I know what I'm like, I'll still want a gfx upgrade!! :p (apart from anything else, I want to be able to flog my 260 before its worthless!)

Thanks again guys....

How does a 470 compare to the 460 in real terms? Also, is there a noticable difference between the 768mb 460's and the 1gb 460's??

Thanks....
