Next Major Windows OS In Three Years?

i think we are all in an unspoken agreement that microsoft are the unrenowned kingpins of the computing worlds, but for example linux storing solutions and some webservers are a cheaper solution for some and they work perfectly fine.
it totally depends what you want, but i for one want to be more open about using different operating systems and see the benefits of using each one.

Vista was out of step with the normal dev cycle. From what I remember reading both Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 will be the last 32bit operating systems on desktop and server.

As for MS making loads of money, so what? They saw a market and took advantage of it, maybe if Apple moved to Intel sooner things may have been differnt.

However people complain about the 3 year dev cycle of MS, but wasnt it Apple releaseing new updates and charge £80 for it every 6 months?

I have used MacOSX and its ok, but I do not like the way it works in terms of driver support.

Going from Version 10.2 to 10.3 suddenly the high end scanners we use no longer work as the driver model is differnet. I mean WFT its not even a major release change and they change the driver model, I can accept going from 10 to 11 thats fine but a point release thats just retardish. The other thing soured me on Apple, was we purchased 8 Dual CPU G5 top of the range, all of them had loose parts and bits of plastic in them, 4 needed new logic boards withing a few months and 2 more needed new CPUs.
