Pascal wasn't really a paper launch - albeit demand massively outstripped supply but there was some quantity of stock coming through - pre-orders were being fulfilled.

As before I'd be wary using GDDR6 commercial launch as a guide - people were saying the same thing as you about the same time out from GDDR5X commercial launch and then Pascal - I mean it is all in the threads here.
 
Would be nice if it wasn’t within Nvidias own self interest to prevent 4k from becoming the new standard. The moment 4k does become the expectation, will be a turning point away from developing and selling garbage like the 1070ti.

yeah next time around either people will stay clear of EVGA or ask for assurances the pre-order will not turn into a mirage.

Very true. I was thinking more of gaming only where yesteryear meant a GPU upgrade was needed yearly to play the latest games even at mainstream resolutions. 4K is still a little way off mainsteam (I'm on 1440P and class myself as enthusiast :p) and VR headsets still sold in fairly low volumes but you're right, if you want to use either of those techs then you need more power.

I might sit out the next gen as but will see what performance % improvements come along.
 
I'm hoping the Vega 64 I payed over the odds for will be quite happy paired with my 3440x1440 Freesync monitor for a few years, The whole Vega situation's left a sour taste in my mouth so I'm hoping to avoid buying another gpu for as long as possible, If my games are running okay I'm gonna ignore the itch (I will update my cpu in 2018 though) :D.

Been running my geforce 980 for the last 3 years on a 3440*1440 ultrawide monitor and feeling tempted to upgrade but will hold fire to see how the next generation of Nvidia cards (2080/1180/etc) turn out.

It feels too late in the refresh cycle to consider buying a GTX1080 IMO given it's been out for over 18 months now. We'll surely see a refresh around the middle of 2018.

As others have said the lack of competition from AMD means they won't be in a hurry so I don't expect to see anything until nearer the end of the year. If anything the only thing that might give them cause for concern is the Xbox one X bringing 4k gaming into the relative mainstream

Thankfully I'm not in a rush to upgrade as my 980 still runs most things fine other then PUBG!

Just sold my 5820k / gtx 1080 based PC over Christmas, so hoping we get a new range come February / March. 10 series feels like its been around forever.
 
Personal prediction is a 750ti style release first for the next generation (Ampere?) with the '1170 \1180' to follow some months after....

Short of spending serious cash for a Titan Volta I don't think those of us on 1080ti's /Pascal Titans will have a compelling upgrade for a little while yet.

But as others have pointed out Nvidia have previous form for unexpected product releases...

Trying to get a steady 60fps with all the bells and whistles at 4K after spending £700+ on a new GPU?

1080P can be covered for 1/4 of the price, albeit only 1/4 of the pixels onscreen.

I’ve waited instead of getting a 1080Ti myself. They’re good but they’re just not quite good enough.

Mind you, if money didn’t matter I’d probably have bought two of them.

I think would be still better to hope that memory prices return to more reasonable level.
I mean at least we haven't been paying lot more for exactly same product than earlier...
While memory price is about tripled over what it was couple years ago.
Though maybe we shouldn't give any ideas to graphics card makers...

Definitely some refresh is coming, but I suspect Nvidia now has their eyes mainly on vastly increasing and profitable computing product markets.
Which seems to be in similar state to phone/tablet markets.
(which is partially responsible for the prices we have to pay for memory)
