Hi all just have a quick question I'm going to put together a new rig and was just wondering with pascal round the corner when will the ti version of cards come out are they usually a certain time after launch?

Or as a second option would 980ti price drop to an extent they would be a good option even with new tech out?

cheers

No-one's really got a clue when Pascal will hit the shelves, A lot of people think the first half of the year but even if right again no-one know's what end of the range we'll see first.

When we do see the new top end cards it'll be a case of you needing to visit the shop daily to catch the last gen stock sales as the best deals won't last long.

Going by pass gens of Nvidia's release, you can pretty much bet the will release mid-range part of Pascal first (i.e. 1070, 1080), while the Fat Pasca would not be released for at least another 6-9 months after that.

So simply put I doubt there's will be anything around the corner that would destroy the 980Ti in terms of performance, but it is very likely that the 1070 will be able to "match" 980Ti performance and running more efficient and cooler at around £300 +/-10% mark (which also meants the resell value of 980Ti will fall to hell with the release of the 1070, and would probably plummet to just under £200).

I was thinking if Nvidia was to release a new Titan, I doubt it would be released before mainstream mid-range Parcal due to the new fabrication process would not be ready yet...it might get released "alongside" the 1070/1080 I am guessing, for those that are willing to pay the premium to get the 80Ti performance 6-9 months early.

Cheers guys suppose its going to be a sit and wait moment then unless I catch a cracking 980ti deal over any Christmas sales

Doubt the retail price of the 980Ti will go anywhere since AMD's Fury series is not really giving it enough of a competition/threat (the price won't go anywhere unless Nvidia themselves give the go ahead on the price-slash, and there's absolutely no reason for Nvidia to do so), but you could probably find 2nd hand 980Ti at under £400 from those who fear of losing too much value on the card with the imminent arrival of the mid-range Parcal on the horizon :p

Is that a good option? I have no problem in buying something used I probably would have abit more trust using the mm than ebay but I dont have access to mm yet :o

Get posting! Much prefer the mm than the bay/rainforest. Had someone return me a perfectly working card saying it's faulty on the rainforest marketplace. Once they change their minds about spending the cash they can come up with any old story.

lol. Was that the 295x2 I got from you? As for a while you was running from an iGPU as I recall :)

Yeah, I agree. A lot less fuss dealing with people from mm. I have dealt with many people, apart from one guy going AWOL and not wanting to help with a warranty claim, I have been very lucky :D

The 295x2 is working perfectly fine and I am very happy with my purchase. Only thing wrong with it is not the hardware, it's AMD getting out crossfire profiles, which they have done very well for the most part really except for Elite Dangerous!

Yep, was pretty annoying too because I kept it in such good condition and it was like 4 months old from brand new. No chance it could stop working from being in my rig daily I thought. Thankfully it wasn't a scam and all the serial numbers matched fine on return. Just buyers remorse with a twist. There must be a fundamental problem as to why they can't get crossfire on Elite Dangerous after all this time!
