Nexus 5 2015 refresh

Yeah the 6P (if you can stand the size) is a pretty decent performer. The 5X is basically the same performance as the 5, so it needs to be cheaper than you can buy a 5 for (under £200), otherwise what's the point.

I'm genuinely stuck as to what to get now. :(.

It's slow compared to 2016 mid to high range phones but the 5 is still very quick and the 5X is a bit quicker again. I'm not really put off by that as much as i would be by another below par camera and poor battery life.

Moto X Force is the one I'v got my eye on if this goes Pete Tony although that's likely to be a lot more money.

N6 camera is pretty pants for low light/indoor conditions compared to the nexus 5 unless it has been fixed/changed in an update.

I just hope the camera on these 2 nexus phones are really good, I don't expect it to beat the gs 6 but hopefully it won't be much worse....

EDIT:

Regarding nexus 5 performance, I have had it side by side with the gs 6, lg g4, htc one m9 etc. and in no way is it slow/laggy, in fact it is smoother and more snappier than the LG and GS 6 "overall". If I had it my way, I would keep the same CPU, RAM, GPU and put the extra towards a better screen, camera, speaker or/and battery.

It all hinges on price.

Comparing specs of the 5 to the 5X the camera is a bit better, the CPU is a bit better, the battery is a bit better, and the screen is the same. That's hardly any progress in 2 years, so the progress should be that this kind of performance is a lot cheaper now.

I broke the camera on my N5 when I replaced the battery, and after all that the battery life is still shocking, so I'm in the market for a new ~£250 phone, but nothing seems to be better than the N5, including the N5s own replacement :(

Wait to see reviews, actual impressions etc. first....... whilst the "specs. on paper" might not seem much better, there is more to a display and camera than just the res. and MP count i.e. pixel size/sensor, how much better the display is for view ability in sunshine, colours, contrast ratio, viewing angles etc.

So far the new LG nexus looks a decent enough upgrade to me:

- front facing stereo speakers (nexus 5 speaker is shocking)
- slightly bigger screen
- finger print unlocker
- higher specs "overall"
- USB type C
- laser focus for the camera (iirc the same as used in the LG G4)

So if the camera and display (especially if it is OLED, unlikely though) are significantly better along with all the above, I think that will be a worthy upgrade to the n5, of course pricing will be key like for any device, I think £300-350 for all the above will be good value.

I'm edging towards the Z5 now as a result. Lack of wireless charging is a little irritating though :(

That said for the price, I'm more tempted by the 5X. I never found the 5's camera or battery to be THAT bad (could be better though), and I love the stock android experience.

I have wireless chargers dotted around my house as its the only way to make the battery last a day. If I move to a phone without wireless charging I'd need it to have a decent battery.

i quite like the current n5 camera, night shot improvement is what i want.

I'm waiting to see what the new ones bring, possibly looking at the s6.
