Nexus 5 2015 refresh

Hahaha now that would be something worth seeing ;)

That Snapdragon 808 sure is powerful.

Nearly a 10mm taller than the Nexus 5, that's shame.

147.0 x 72.6 Nexus 5X
137.9 x 69.2 Nexus 5

This size creep is really getting quite annoying. This is taller than the original Galaxy Note.

Is the 808 pretty decent ? It's not supposed to heat up and throttle like the 810 is it ?

There's no confirmation that both 4K and 320fps are at the same time. It could be that it does 720p at up to 320fps, and 4K at up to 30fps, like Go Pros do.

Where are people watching the launch? Any links?

For the specs, I'm hoping this phone is quite a bit cheaper than the 6p. It should be anyways.

I'm excited either way. I love announcements of new tech! :D

The leaked prices put it really not much cheaper than the 6P at all. Which would make either the 6P incredibly good value for money, or the 5X eye wateringly overpriced.

4K camnera

A quick Google suggests up to 2GB a minute for 4K at 30fps h.264! You'd fill the phone with 10 minutes of footage!

Fair comment. Never take long vids on my phone so that explains it! Since it all backs up automatically I just delete the local content if it gets full.

I do this for photos. But with 4K video your not only going to have to clear the phone every few minutes of footage, but your also relying on having a fast internet connection and a decent data allowance in order to upload it too.

Putting a very high resolution camera on a phone with a low storage capacity is a bit of a missmatch in spec. The camera is obviously there for headline grabbing spec wars, rather than actually being useful.

I have 40gb of music & 16gb of movies.

32gb is a joke in this day & age.

I think "joke" is a little strong. It is just based around user demand/need - more and more people are cloud based now. For example, I have nearly 100gb of music, but it's all on the cloud, and I just sync what I want to listen to if I am going to be off line, or stream it. Or if I'm going on hols, put it on a USB stick and just plug it into my phone via an adapter.

The movies you have surely are backed up and you don't need them on your phone ALL the time?

I guess your point is, why shouldn't you have it on your phone all the time - again that's fair enough - but I think it just comes down to managing your data around the capabilities/capacities offered to you.

That last point does make sense - I agree completely.

Who doesn't have a fast internet connection these days?! :p If you haven't got unlimited data on your contract then you're being ripped off ;)

Besides you can always just plug it into your PC and hoover the data off if you wanted to. That said I agree and accept, it's a faff that you shouldn't have to do that regularly.

I guess I've never seen a phone as a filming tool (I use it for casual shots or mainly gym stuff!) but more as a useful all in one though the camera is important to me. However I can see why they are moving that way - and I agree if they are moving more for filming especially 4k they should have the data capacity to match.

In which case 16Gb I agree is not really sensible and I can see why 32Gb is going to be limiting.

Loads of people have fast data connections, they just don't have the allowance from their phone carrier to actually use it for more than 5 minutes :(.

I think its like the "MOAR BLADES" thing with razors. If camera specs don't keep going up, people dismiss them as being rubbish. But in reality almost nobody is going to use the camera to its full potential, so theres no real need to build the other phone specs around it that need it.

Same story with screens. They are getting massive and super high resolution, but if you actually run a significant amount of content on them at their native resolution you'd empty the battery in an hour.

Its all about the numbers on paper rather than actually being used.
