Nexus 9

So, its here. I must say I'd have been thoroughly annoyed had I paid RRP for this on launch. It feels cheap, it rattles, the back flexes and feels like its not attached in the middle, theres backlight bleed on a corner, and its not even white!

Taking my N9 to the post office today - eBay sale. It's not a bad piece of kit, but the build quality and lagginess make me less keen on it and a tablet really isn't an essential for me.

Mine running marshmallow, is very slow. Like though it in the bin its defective slow.

Any fixes? Without doing a full wipe if possible.

Returned and refunded. Piece of junk no better after full factory wipe.

Put off as I was going for one of these, any other 9-10" tablets to look out for around £200 max?

It's probably the best tablet for the money at that size. My wife's has been excellent and she's not had a single issue with it.

I've just got the new nvidia shield which is £150, this is only 8", not quite as powerful as the N9 (both tegra K1, but N9 is 64bit, shield is 32bit i believe), but has other benefits, like external SD card, better screen ratio for videos and the gaming aspect using GRID.

I like both, but i wanted the External SD ability for myself, and 8" was better for me size wise.

Ok, so now my wife's Nexus 9 is playing up....

She's not touched it for about a week due to a house move. Tried to turn it on yesterday now we've got the internet installed and it wouldn't turn on.

Plugged the charger in and the screen still doesn't turn on, not even the battery icon to show it's charging

Hey,

Haven't read the thread (sorry!), but I'm looking to get rid of my Shield Tablet and get something bigger with better battery life.

Would you guys still recommend the N9? The 32GB Wi-Fi model is $290 on sale in the US, and the 32 GB LTE model is $360 with a free Logitech keyboard.

Cheers,

Su

It depends on what else can be had around that price.
I really like my Nexus 9, but am running another rom, with no encryption, and another kernel.
I felt the performance on the stock rom, was not acceptable. It was almost a hark back to the performance of the first gen Nexus 7...

If you're happy chucking another rom on, then go for it. If not, then maybe see if you can use one, before making the jump.

Having got mine for about £140, I'm very happy with it.

Had I paid RRP on launch for it I would have been very annoyed.

Emlyn, what ROM are you using?

Using Pure Nexus Project, with fire-ice kernel.
Very happy with the performance, for generic usage, as it just feels snappier.

CM13 is out and getting reasonable feedback, so might take a look.
Would be interesting to see how the stock rom performs, with encryption off.

I'm not sure what causes the slowdown. The update to Marshmallow seemed to slow things down for me, so I wiped/flashed stock again but there wasn't much change.

I assume the forced encryption doesn't help things. Certainly a large number of comments on XDA forums, seem to be pretty against it.

I like the Nexus 9, I've not noticed any build quality issues, and I don't know if I'm just blind or my light bleed isn't too bad... Constantly find myself disappointed with performance on Tegra based Android devices though.

I'm aware of what it means :p. I just wasn't aware that the Nexus 9 had it?

Is that why it asks for your unlock shape or PIN before it boots? Can I turn it off?
