NF7-S V2 & Barton 2500 Problems

If temp 2 is the cpu temp, then thats the problem right there. Suggest you clean the fans if gunked asap, or reseat the heatsink and reapply thermal compound as 72C is close to the point of permanent damage, considering that may be the unloaded temp as well! Check the BIOS to see if it reflects those values for the cpu temperature. Also check if the cpu fan is spinning!

I have checked all fans and they are all spinning. But will re check again

Will quote bios temps in a bit

Thanks

Have you checked for dust in the heatsink fins? That can dramatically raise temperatures.

Will check for dust when i shutdown tonight.

Bios tells me

CPU 64°
System 46°

CPU fan 3970RPM

Cpu is rather high for idle, when intensive stuff is started i won't be surprised if it hit 70+ in the high ranges easily. do give it a cleaning.

64c is very high for load never mind idle so something def up there. Should be idling around low 40s with stock cooling and hitting low 50s under load. The bartons are good for 85c so chip should take it ok. Probably the temp warning in bios being triggered by the heat.

Use something like occt or prime95 and see what the max temp it hits is.

Guessing it will be hitting near 75c if 64c idle?

Time for a good spring clean and maybe new thermal paste.

I did notice that the BIOS temp warnings were disabled when was in the BIOS last night, so guess it isn't that.

Did a good clean of the heatsink fan last night. Started using cotton buds to remove the big bits, finishing off with a big blow which removed all the dust and sh*! out of the fan and heatsink area.

Will post results later on when i see what the difference is.

What exactly is prime95 and occt

Thanks

They are stability testing programs and work your cpu to the max and therefore will heat it up the most.

OK I googled occt and downloaded it. It ran for 3 minutes before the pc just blacked out.

I assume this is not good, so i probably have to re-seat the heat exchanger and fan and use new thermal compound.

Thanks

Bartons never liked that much heat. Try putting the HSF back on (after cleaning all the ol gunk off with some isopropyl alcohol or w/e you use) with some new thermal compound, and see if temps are better.

What is the voltage for the vcore? Should be running at 1.65 IIRC. The bios might have set it higher for some reason which would also explain your v. high temps.

OK will re seat tonight. Will let you know the vcore voltage at lunchtime.

Thanks

VCOREA = 1.65
VCOREB = 2.61

What temp was it hitting in occt before it crashed?

speedfan said 67°

Since then i have run all tonight with the side off the PC and speedfan has been at 55°. When i was burning 5 dvd's earlier it went to 63°

I will post the current bios temp in the morning to get a comparison with speedfan.

I still think it needs re seating.

But also a better set of case fans may help

Thanks

my brothers nf7-s does this too. At least i think it's the same thing you're talking about. On my bro's at random times only for a second or 2, the mobo does some kind of beeps and clicks then goes away...

It's no oc'd or anything either - but he has had head problems as his HSF isn't v. good. Not sure if it still does i since he re-seated it though.

I've had a lot of experience with this as my system gets more and more tired.

NF7-v2 and Barton - I can reiterate that instant power-down with high-low siren until you switch off power is definitely CPU temperature warning.

My solution was to

- completely clean out dust from case
- clean and re-seat CPU and heatsink with decent thermal paste
- most importantly, check it's seated correctly as with my after-market cooler it's sometimes hard to tell that it's on perfectly

Thanks for that mate. I have fully cleaned out the case. Have run the pc for something like 3 weeks with the side panel removed and no sirens, so me thinks the clean and re-seat is the next option. Also need to get a new rear case fan as i have noticed it runs at varying speeds on it's own accord.

Hopefully should clear things up for me ;)

Hi mate, not sure if you sorted the problem but i had a similar thing with mine. Went out and bought a new hs and fan but no joy. Finally noticed that by mistake i'd plugged the cpu fan into the wrong connection on the board. Think i had it in the system fan socket.... really simple mistake but cured the problem.
