Yeah looking around its not cheap like normal. Both it asnd the 2k version is released this week. The cheapest I can find NHL is £37 and the 2K one is £24.

Hopefully leaving it a week or two will bring the price right down as normal.
 
got my copy this morning and boy its good - better than good, its gooooooooooood

online is awesome, 6v6 hell yeah - so intense, so much fun - plus as you play with your BAP online, he develops and gets XP etc, so everyone builds a different guy

plays a great game of hockey, looks fantastic - this is a not miss purchase imo, even if you just like online team based sports, this is the one to get.
 
As they have introduced Be A Pro this year, can you play through full seasons in this mode á la FIFA 09. Or did they not get that far ? :P

How easy are the shots to pull off? Controls easy to get the hang of?

You have convinced me I need this game ;)
 
Single player BAP you start off in the AHL (ie the minors) then have to work your way up, but like real hockey you do shifts and then sit out and come back in when your fatigue recovers

Then you can get called up to the NHL or traded etc, you earn XP but its slow though again thats good as you need to work at your game. You get graded during the game with coaches notes and then an overall grade broken down at the end of the game (nothing over indepth but enough to let you know what you did good and bad) - all in all its something like a 15-20 year career you get, as you start as a 19 year old :)

The controls, well its either the same as 08, using total stick control ie Right Stick is your hockey stick - or you can change them to the old classic controls, so X to shoot etc. Gameplay is finely tuned this year, goalies are more organic with saves, spills, rebounds etc - hits are bigger, but better and not over the top. The little skill moves for defense are implemented well, stick lifting, sweeping.

If you get a good online 6 (and in my 12 games so far I always have) then the game is head and shoulders the best thing invented, period. Its so cool seeing the guy you created go out there, name on shirt and all the intro stuff - its too addictive if anything.

Ive played 12 games online, 3 goals, 12 assists and a whole plethora of stats tracked, passes, hits, turnovers, +/-..... im going on again in a bit :D

About what? I love hockey games, more than football games. They are much more excitng and fast to play than football games.

Every review i've read has been top drawer.

Thanks mehuk it definately sounds up my street. Do you prefer the skill stick or classic button shooting?
 
skill stick myself, just because i played 08 that way and i feel more in control

First match offline - lost 4-0 :)

2nd match, went online in 2v2 be a pro, had some canadian kid yelling "GET HIGH ON YOUR GADDAMN BOARD" all match! :(
 
Mine turned up on the PS3 today. Used to love these games on the Mega Drive, don't think I've played one since. Anyone playing online ?
 
Having played the 3on3 arcade game I am now determined to get this. I played the demo and liked it, can't wait to pick it up.

How is everyone else finding it?

ps. I found my NHL95 for the Mega Drive the other day. The box is in perfect condition :p
I can't believe it was 14 years ago I was playing that!!!
 
I personally don't get on with the skill stick. I prefer the more arcadey 2K games but since 2k7 they have been woefull.

I want to pick up nhl09 myself after playing the demo but I can't find it for around £20 yet.

These games online are far far more exciting than playing a game of Fifa. End to end with no let up.
 
I am finding it hard on the arcade game to use the skill stick to deke and then score past the keeper, but when I play online people are awesome at it.

Otherwise I quite like the skill stick :)
 
I really enjoyed it when it came out, but its sat unused since fifa came out.

If anyone fancies a game, add me Metalface Mark and ill play, im rubbish, so would appreicate if you arent amazing.
 
Love this game, and also the 3v3 game.

Ill give you a game at some point Mark, havent played this for quite some time now :)
 
I picked this up a couple of weeks back as I used to love the Hockey games on the SNES way back when... tried it a couple of times, and never mid the outstanding graphics, I can't believe how far the gameplay has moved on... and how difficult it is.

Would be happy to have a little practice with anyone else who's struggling with the skill stick controls etc.
