Any of you lot going to be getting this?

With last years omission of the EA Sports Hockey League i've been two years without a decent hockey game! Going to be reuniting with some old buddies that I played 09-13 with! :)

Sadly I've not bothered with next gen console yet so will be picking up NHL legacy for PS3.

It'll do nicely though, I'd just stick with NHL 14 if it still updated all the rosters ;)

I might have a look at it, I enjoyed NHL 15, although it was my first hockey game since the mega drive days.

Spurred me on to watch some ice hockey games since.

Quite an enjoyable sport I must say.

Will be picking this up I think, not had a NHL game since 13 so I'm ready to drop the gloves.

The commentary team that they brought in for 15 was awful. :o

Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyk commentate pretty much all the major games in the NHL though, so it adds to the broadcast emulation experience.

Winter classic, all star game, Stanley Cup final etc etc.

the only issue is that the variety of the commentary is very limited and after playing the EASHL beta, I am not holding out much hope for an update unless they just used the commentary from 15 for the beta.

So its likely going to be another year of:

  • He gave him a Birthday present 4 months early!
  • Geometrically
  • Will this be icing? and it will be, based on the defence arriving first
  • Looky looky here...
  • that was a heavyweight shot
  • off his helmet mask
  • a young lady from shawinagan...

I'll probably just turn it off if its another year of the same stuff.

looking forward to the targeting systems in practice mode and the visual on ice training so I can fine tune shots and stuff as well as fiddling with how well play styles work on lines.

Probably going to spend a lot of time on HUT but I cant see my luck being as good as last year [unlocked a historic mario lemieux card which basically paid for a stacked team].
Single Splayer season in HUT may get some attention also depending how its gets implemented but I will probably just play online. Slipped down to division 8 [from 4] in the past few months as I think the people still playing 15 are the top players and I am getting bad draws on matchmaking against users with 800+ wins etc.

I have been playing a lot of the NHL moments mode recently so would like some more interesting scenarios in that also.

I appreciate it adds to the whole NBC broadcast presentation but the delivery of the lines is just wooden and there's not nearly as many lines as in the previous games. As you've already mentioned the commentary that already is in the game is pretty uninteresting as well, I felt that Gary Thorne and Bill Clement did a much better job of delivering the lines and the variety was great in comparison to 15. It's understandable seeing as that was their first current gen effort but it'd be pretty disappointing if they haven't bothered recording any more lines or brushing up on what is already in the game.

One thing that they've done right though is the introduction to the game with the live action sequence and the quick run down of the two clubs, even if it does get repetitive after a few games.

EA have supposidly added 'story driven' commentary. What that means god, only knows.

At a guess I'd say if you're playing Season/GM mode you'll get comments about how your team has been doing so far which isn't anything new or exciting but maybe I'm wrong. I know the gameplay is more important and the commentary is only a small aspect of the game but it plays a big part in the overall presentation which has traditionally been very good, so it was a bit disappointing to hear such stilted, robotic commentary in 15.

the story will go along these lines:

rjk has smashed a load of time into HUT this season and still not got any decent players from his packs.

Someone on reddit has already pulled an Ovi in HUT

Got my copy yesterday, had a few goes on it. Feels really nice coming from 14, Online Team Play was the usual no one passes and no one defends. Looking forward to playing with my old buddies from past EASHL seasons :D

I am sure they had that on 13 or 14 (the one with the rubber coated goalies). The problem was they would say things like your team were awful on attacking that season because of lack of goals, which was from playing short matches.

I think it's got to the point where we expect this kinda crap in EA games.

I mean ive seen a lot of videos with players getting stuck in the crossbar and heads getting stuck in the boards but ive never really experienced it myself and i would say i play on average 5+ games a week.
