NHL Friday

I picked up NHL10 about 4 days ago, after having NHL 09 and loving it. I'm a big hockey fan and I read a few reviews of both this and 2K's game as well. I must say that this is the best hockey game I've ever played. The puck is no longer magnetised to the players stick, passing tape to tape is no longer a possibility in most situations and the AI seems to be much, much better out of the box, even though there are many options for customisation.

The graphics are an absolute treat to the eyes and the uniforms look really great. The physics all seem completely different to last years game and on the whole this plays a much more realistic game of hockey. The soundtrack in my opinion is really good although my favourite soundtrack so far has to go to NHL 08, it was brilliant. Loose puck deke's are a bit more tricky to do this year which is good and overall the game just feels much more weighty, the eradication of the glitch goals is a good thing also. There's plenty of different game modes and if you don't sim any games then the GM mode will take quite some time to finish, even on 4 minute periods. Most of my games all bar the odd one or two have ended in realistic scorelines, no more 12-0 thrashings game after game, the AI seem to act much more realistically, dumping and chasing properly, opening up the D with slick passes and even setting up proper screen for some 1 timers from the points.

The game however does still need some improvements in my opinion. Next year I'd like to see the following:

1. Better team intro's.
2. More realistic and louder goal horns.
3. More customisation options on the create-a-skater faces.
4. The British elite league seeing as we have almost every other league.
5. Updates on the players photos as a lot seem to be wearing their previous teams uniforms.
6. More achievements/trophies for the offline modes.
7. Options to buy out players contracts.
8. Newer and better scoring animations.
9. More options when engaged in a fight.
10. And finally, the option to drive the Zamboni!

Still a great game despite the improvements I'd like to see. 9/10 in my opinion, and the best EA hockey game of the current generation.

Just seen nhl 10 on metascore. Got an average review score of 91 and ranked at number 18  for xbox.

Deserves it though. One of the best games I've played TBH. Just an incredible package.

Seen nhl 2k10 only scored 65 average....I'd say that was fair for that game TBH.

Zensuji, do you have it on 360 or PS3?

If so what's your GT? We could have a few games. :D

I downloaded the EA NHL 10 demo, and whilst the graphics were excellent, the music got me all ready for a game of ice hockey and even the training helped me understand the controls...

....could I play this... Nah.!!

It was a bit quick, and I sucked right good. Is there any decent guides anyone can give me on how to actually play EA NHL ice hockey as it was a great looking game, and I quite like real ice hockey.....

I was planning on getting this, as well as Tiger Woods 10 as this is something missing from my PS3 games selection.. Some good old sports action.

Problem is, I like F1 and erm F1 games are limited on the good old Ps3 so thought I'd give golf and ice hockey a chance. Can't stand football.

Shame the hockey game was a bit too frantic for me, so in need of some good tips.

Thanks...

If you get the full game there's so many training routines its silly. Plus play on normal or hardcore as the game is slightly slower at that level.

Buy it! its truly the best sports title ever made regardless of what you're into

In the full game there is so much optomisation in regards to game speed and difficulty. There are sliders you can adjust for virtually every game component, including game speed.

The main way to score in this game is to get traffic in front and take slappers from the points. Other than that a wrist shot will frequently work if there's a screen set up. Deflections work well depending on the quality of the skaters, if you've got a line 1 up there then deflections will probably go in quite a bit, but the grinders in line 4 are less likely to get good deflections.

Just make sure you keep the puck a lot, don't let it get turned over in the neutral zone and make sure that when you pass there's a clear lane because this year the CPU are actually half decent at intercepting.

:D

**Bump**

Just wondering what the timer is like on these 2 games? Is it double time like ive seen in Hockey games before or can you set it to real time? :)
