NHS Fail

You got job satisfaction - I mean that's what they tell nurses isn't it! :D

'Oh I bet your job is rewarding' meanwhile they are thinking - not financially it isn't.

Pft! Whilst I'm incredibly proud of what I and my colleagues achieved, as you say a little financial incentive would have been nice. However if you fancy a read I put a post up in the business forum showing what the company did for appreciation...

Yep that is the case but these problems are caused at the top and those positions are largely political appointments and nothing really to do with the NHS. It's like blaming soldiers for the actions of the Ministry of Defense.

The tactic is usually, get appointed then get in a load of consultants who come up with a plan to which they themselves deliver at vast cost and negligible benefit. Head resigns/asked to resign, gets massive payoff/pension benefit and a few months later pops up at another Trust to repeat. Repeat.
It seems when you are in the circle, making a mess is no hindrance to another position.

Hmm, didn't know you worked somewhere near me :D

Every day I will load up:
IPM which shows me patient journeys going back to the 90s and I can also get old letters from there. Other staff use IPM to put patients appointments on.
iPortal which is replacing CIS but there are some differences where I'll be knocking on doors to get access (this is a centralised software which shows lots of data on the patient with links to other programs like below).
ICM but I've just had access to ICE which now does both Stoke & County Pathology
CRIS and at last we now have a combined Stoke & County system for XRay reports.
Our main electronic records system is called EDMS and it is shocking to use but I've been given access to a much better system for getting everything off there in multi TIF format that I can then read in Adobe.
County have their own called EDRM and mine has gone off this week so I've put a few calls through to IT.
I have full access to Clinical Photography but they have changed that system and I can't download anything because I've only got Doctors access so I've been sent a form to fill in so I can get full access again.
In November we are going to have a system called Medway which I've done my training for and hopefully a lot of stuff will be centralised in that.
I've missed quite a few off because there are loads more but there are records all over the place on different systems and it's part of my job to find them.

Now times this with every hospital that uses a different system it will be hell to implement one system.

I'm sure Dolph has the answer.

Yup, same trust it looks like. What a joke.

West Midlands Ambulance Service now don't provide any paper copies of their transfer of patients to hospital so first now have to access that online then print it off!

Medisec to see recent discharge letters

IPM to update ward lists

CIS to see alerts, eg allergies/infection risk etc

iportal to see bloods results

Syngo/PACs to see X-Ray's

ICM to order blood tests or imaging

EDMS to see A&E documents

Nerve centre go review oncall jobs

CRIS, as above for Stafford patients

God knows what Medway is but I've heard of it. No doubt I won't get any training on it and just be expected to use it.

Great stuff. Use most of these for every new patient I clerk in. Spend more time in front of the PC (which is pathetically slow) than seeing patients.

Thank God, prescribing is still on paper...for now.

Edit

Oh and the other evening we had a major power failure including back up generators so nothing was available. Lol

What is that system called?
I do get the odd ones, is that the yellow A3 or the A4 stuff on about 4 pages?

iportal to see bloods results

Ask for ICE, I was given that last week and it does both County and RSUH

EDMS to see A&E documents

If they are there, if not I have to request from Document Warehouse

I had to go to County for training and she said you won't get access unless you do the training.

Yeah but they've now stopped providing them.

Not heard of ice before might look into it. Thanks.

So as a "punishment" for completely ******* up their budgets and not being able to do the basics of a management role, they are now to also fail at their patient targets as well. Wow, I wish my employer was so forgiving, you **** it up? Ah don't worry we'll make it easier so you don't next time

This may be a watershed moment and it really feels although the government are now allowing the NHS to fail so it gets so bad they can just remove it.

A better solution would be managing the thing properly, God forbid though :(

you can blame all the imbeciles who voted conservative.

The WMAS are crucial disclosure if the claim is A&E related.
What is the system called you get them off?

ICE is County & RSUH Pathology in one piece of software, it also does other places results.

I wonder if Dolph is now getting an understanding of how records are taken & distributed?
Yes it is stupid but we staff are not archaic and refuse to use technology.
Perhaps he could invent the software that finally puts everything together in one neat package and is user friendly.

We use pretty much all the above and some others in Bedford hospital and they are all a joke.

I've come from being a software developer to a PM and seeing these systems is so disturbing, the support from the companies is shocking, taking months to get even the most basic of things done, and I'm told to expect it because "It's the NHS", and by that they mean - nobody prioritises our requests / calls, we very nearly had to close a clinic for the day because a support company wouldn't look into our problem with their crappy '90s application.

ICE and IPM are just as bad, early 2000 design with the same coding, all pages use post requests instead of using a feed like ajax. These software companies make loads of money off us, charging 800 for a call out for an hours work.

tbh i think it's a case of spending a year or two consulting with NHS staff and IT firms to produce a proper design requirement to fulfil all requirements.

then pick a reputable company with experience and capability (IBM/lockheed/hell does google contact? etc) and give them the brief get a quote etc then let them crack on for the next 5 + or however many years it takes to get it made.

during that same time all existing records could be scanned/copied/transcribed into a format that could be put into the new system.

that might not be possible in time though so the new system, may be running concurrently with the current mess for a few years while the notes from development years are moved across, then the old programs binned

but it would take a long tiem to egt the brif made properly and then politicans would need to be locked out from interfering

FAO shadow_boxer, look what appeared on my desktop today :D
