NHS visit today

My girlfriend's a midwife so I might get her to chip in later ;).

Would be interesting to get more inside input :D Granted, we had a nice chat with the midwife but I'm sure they would like to spend time doing less paperwork :D

Just go and ask about type 3 tear

I know all about them. My wife's friend introduced herself to me by telling me a story that included the phrase "Oh ****, I'm pooing through my fanny!". Doctor put finger in front and it came out the back :p

Oh no £9! As said, go to the US and see how you feel about £9k.

Congrats on the news though. :)

Thanks, and my issue with price was parking as I mentioned above. I'd of paid £10 just for the scan. Also spent a few quid in the shop while I was there :D

And thanks :)

You don't think emergencies happen in a maternity ward?

None that would effect the HCAs taking blood or the sonographers doing the OP scans.

We recently had a pretty positive experience at Peterborough, though it did take about an hour for the three HCAs doing bloods to get through the 3 people waiting. Scan however happened as soon as we arrived and no unnecessary paperwork or questions apart from the UK citizen check.

It doesn't cost £9000 to park a car and receive a printout in the US either.

He hasn't been charged £9 for any of the care aspects, just for a copy of his scan to take home and parking in the carpark.

That's ridiculous though

Surely it should be one master database, all the information in already so other than contact details you shouldn't need to answer all these questions, they could pull family history too. This would free up nurses/midwives, cut down waiting times...

Isn't that what they're rolling out now and what all the opt out forms are for at the GP? I thought they wanted to make a giant database but also sell anonymous data to companies, so they've given the option to opt out.

£5 for 4 hours parking,

You might be able to answer this better even though I work there.
Did you just go to the pay machine and decide to have 4 hours worth or did you keep going back to pay?
I often wonder if patients keep running back to the pay machines when they get delayed and see their parking running out.
Also when I'm on a walkabout one of the most common questions I get asked by patient motorists is "Where can I park that's close to that entrance" and I just pull a confused face.

Ahh the wonders of parking at hospitals. My youngest was kept in NICU for a few days after he was born and the wife was kept in hospital too. I was of course popping in and out of hospital and the parking charges soon racked up. Only on the 3rd or 4th day did someone in NICU ask me if I had a car and then filled out a form I could use so I only had to pay the minimum £1.70 charge each time. This after I'd just forked out £11.40 to nip to the shops. Better late than never though :)

To be fair though, I find Portsmouth QA hospital's parking charges aren't really that bad considering. It's only when you're repeatedly in and out that it starts to get a bit irritating. 2.5 hours there is only £3 which is fairly reasonable but that several times a day gets steep. That's clearly what the pass that NICU issued me was for, if only they'd told me about it sooner.

I can never quite get my head around the concrete garden area around the main entrance. It looks okay I guess but surely a hospital needs to be putting functionality first..
