I'm utterly addicted to this. I never played the first one but I've not been so engrossed in a game since GTAV launched.

I'll definitely be on the lookout for the original (I know the battles are completely different) when I've got through with this.

Yep it’s good.

Not quite got the charm of the first in some ways, but really getting into it now.

Loving this game as well. I don't usually get on with real time combat (FF XV still sat on my desk mostly unplayed) but this is much easier to get on with. Also got Persona 5 and Trails of Cold Steel II on the go, so have a bit of a JRPG marathon at the minute :D

Just purchased for £29.99 :D seemed silly to hold on to my voucher when they put the game 20% off after release. Previously it was only 6%, so I'm surprised they did that so early.

@scritchyrat You know it was only ever released on the PS3? Also if you have PS3, you may have had PS Plus? They gave away Ni No Kuni some time ago, it's how I came to love the game. So if you do what I do and add each games months, you might already have it.

I dug my original out before this and tried to finish it, but didnt manage it, but i WILL go back to do so.

As actually when compared the games are VERY different. Both enjoyable for separate reasons, but only really share the "world" as a common factor.

So I've just reached the world map, so far I'm very happy with the game. I miss the amazing cutscenes from the original and for me, I really dislike the new characters design for the world map. Overall it plays very solid, I run this 1440p on a GTX 980 and I haven't dropped from 60fps (I cap at 60 for my monitor). I love the art style of the game and the combat system does seem to be easier to work with now. They really need to find a way to up the difficulty though!

All in all it feels like an amazing game but if you have played the original, it may feel like certain parts are just missing.

I got a good way into the game on PS3 and still play it now and again. I'm at the point now though where I can't progress because I need to level up my familiars to defeat stronger enemies.

There is a way around this. You need to hunt out some familiars called: Tokos. They can be found on the Ugly Duckling Isle.

Also another place called Billy Goat's Bluff where you can get tokotoko's!

2k and 4k xp per battle.

Thanks! I'll have to work a little towards getting there. I'm currently at Hamelin in my game but difficulty is getting up a little.

There is literally so much to do in that game! And on reflection I am VERY pleased I decided to go back to it recently to paly some more.

You are still quite early on (Hamelin) but it's do-able to go back and get a few things that should help you.

If you are at Hamelin for the story then you should have the ship? This means you can at least sail to ugly duckling isle, but probably not able to get to the other place until you unlock the ability to travel the world map via another method
Flight via Tengri the Dragon

Have you been doing the Horace quests (I think hes called Horace)? He is a green ghost boy who you first encounter at one of the early villages.

If you speak to him via "spirit medium" spell he has a quest per town which unlocks useful spells. I suggest at least going back to do this in each town (fast travel) so that you can obtain these.

Not only are the above very enjoyable, as you have to look in the wizard companion etc. but the spells he provides are mighty useful.

As for familiars you should only level them up once you have unlocked all abilities at their current form (Really similar to Pokemon). Also its worth having a Tanky/resistant familiar per playable character. I learnt this the hard way and had to REALLY level up some new ones when i went back to the game after a 4 year break.

Ironically I got to Hamelin before i stopped playing on release. I think because of the above mistakes I made personally (wrong familiars etc.) is a contributing factors to what put me off playing for such a long time.

Doing side quests and bounties is not essential in this game, but the merit stamps and rewards they provide help you unlock boosts which are VERY helpful in battle. So I would advise doing as many as you can along side the story.

I'm fully engrossed in this game ATM. I'm at work, and getting home and playing it is all that I can think about. I've not had that feeling for some time.

The game is very flawed in many aspects and I can see why most would hate it, but something about it has hooked me.

Trying to decide if I can ditch the GF for a late night session 2 nights in a row...

Its got its hooks in me too! Ive only clocked about 14 hours total but thats a lot for me considering i have 2 young kids and can only fit in an hour or two total gaming a week usually.

Played it briefly, pretty much just the intro I guess which was more than enough for me.

It's clearly targeted at kids, the art style, storyline and dialog similarly so..

Confused as to why grown men are into this game, I might have enjoyed this back when I was 12.

That's like saying anime is also aimed at kids. I've seen anime that wouldn't be suitable for kids to watch. It's funny how art style is subjective though, a game doesn't have to look like the newest AAA title around to be good. I also suspect the lack of much spoken dialog would also put kids off playing this, especially for the story telling.

I'm sure plenty of grown men still play every Pokemon release also.

Very narrow minded to brand something as childish because of the of style.

Each to their own I guess.

I'm an anime fan and I still dislike the art style of this game, they just don't look proportioned properly, they just look weird to me.

It saddens me that this thread is only 2 pages long, and that on Steam a total of 4000 people have ever played it. This game is fun, and should get way more attention than it already does.

Well completed it other day, enjoyable. Too easy though!

First was the better game.
