Nibiru..2012 the end?

If you seriously believe that nonsense, then my suggestion to you is that you need to seek professional psychiatric help.

Quite apart from the 'breath' crazyness, if the earth suddenly started spinning in the opposite direction everything not attached would be flung into the air! The atmosphere would continue to rotate at a thousand miles per hour too, sweeping everything that wasn't bedrock away.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with having an open mind :)

Not at all. There is however something wrong with believing absolutely everything that is posted on the internet. I never did understand why conspiracy nuts are (quite justifiably at times) skeptical about anything the government say but will not apply an ounce of common sense or skepticism to random website nutjobs.

Nice one fornowagain, like the look of that! :)

But seriously I know your a well-smart geezer so it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the scenario!
Zecharia Sitchin has a lot to answer for, I remember the same fuss in 2003.

Although there is always a grain of truth, some old links I kept on discovered planets. Funny thing though, you never hear much about them afterwards. So yeah, no reason why an interstellar body couldn't be on some wildly elliptic orbital plain hidden from view, but coming near to us in 2012, nah.

You've read all the stuff on Sumerian tablets with extra planets and how they get the 2012 dates etc? Its all very interesting, does it actually mean anything? Well no. New age conciousness? I don't go much on Indigo kids born after 1996, I have three and if their aura has a colour its more a dirty brown.

I thought the Earth spun at one revolution every 24 hours so if it stopped and went the opposite way nobody would immediately notice anything wrong.

It does! That means the equator is rotating at about 1000 miles an hour. If the earth suddenly started spinning at 1000 miles an hour in the opposite direction, inertia would cause everything not attached to fly off at great speed. A bit like if you were sat in a car going at 1000 miles an hour, and it suddenly started going 1000 miles an hour backwards. You'd make rapid progress through the windscreen.

Ah, that makes sense now after all these years.
I can now see that it would cause mass destruction.

Well obviously, but how many times do scientists turn around and say yes the UFO in question is of alien/ET origin? My main hypothesis is that UFO's are made up of aircraft (known and not), Natural phenomenon, animal (birds), balloons (weather ones :D) and those of ET theres a famous caption of the Concorde doing 1100mph released and it was only when viewers phoned in asking what the orb next to it was they had no idea... unexplainable obviously not a bird (swift flies the fastest), not a balloon, not big enough to be an aircraft, natural phenomenon is very unlikely... if i'm wrong and its been admitted as a hoax fair enough, but hasnt yet to my knowledge...

i can automatically infer that there must be life on other worlds, its an impossibility for there not to be life elsewhere even rare earth hypothesis states life is there but not in abundance, then you have panspermia which is the opposite which is that almost anywhere that has certain gases etc there will be life.

Ok that freaked me out! It wasn't what I thought it was going to be!

It was a drip instead...

mavity would stop us from flying away though, otherwise we would all be getting travel sickness around about now.

True, we'd eventually come crashing back down, along with all the trees, houses, loose rocks, topsoil and oceans of the earth. Things with very small mass might reach their escape velocity, though, and end up in orbit or shooting off into space.

Ah but it could slow down slowly, but that would take probably thousands of years, and we may have realised by now...:p

How about reversing it's course around the sun? I'm not sure how that would affect us on earth?

However it's all a moot point really as you would certainly be able to tell from the geological record and there is certainly no evidence for anything of the sort.

The earth orbits the sun at about 67000 miles an hour according to wikipedia. Reverse the orbit and everything on the forwards (now backwards) side would immediately achieve escape velocity and disappear into space. Stuff on the other side would be flattened. Extremely flattened.

Ah yeah, makes sense.

Again, the geological evidence would sort of refute that claim. Oh and i'm not sure how much water would be left on the planet either.:p

Here's a question.

Imagine if NASA had found and known about it for the past 20-30yrs, do you think they would have come out and told us or hide it and cover up for as long as possible?

How would the uneducated masses react to such an announcement? would they still bother turning up to work to pay off their mortgages etc? or would the world descend into total chaos?
