Hi there,

I've just booted up my main machine (yesterday it was fine no problems) to go on the web and found that there is a cross against the LAN connection. So initially I just unlplugged the cable from either end going into PC and Router and plugged back in. This didn't solve anything.

I have tried rebooting.

I have tried another cable in another port on router.

I have uninstalled the drivers for the NIC and reinstalled latest. It installs fine but still no connection, just a red cross against the LAN icon.

Do you have any ideas what's up?

Any help, much appreciated

On most NICs there are two diagnostic LEDs. One of them is lit on a live connection, the other indicates Rx/Tx events. Take a look and see if either of them are lit. It's a fairly good way of seeing if you have a hardware or software issue. The LED showing an active connection should be lit whether or not you have booted as far as windows.

Probably. Check through BIOS see if the NIC's disabled or if there are any diags for it. These days there often are.

Failing that do a CMOS reset. Otherwise yeh it's probably gone.

Weird, after like the 5th reboot (I went out and left it for a few hours) it is now lit up and working as It was yesterday... don't know how to explain that one.

Thanks for the help!
