My girlfriend wants to visit London at the end of April for our anniversary, just for 2 nights.

She's been looking and has found this. I think it's a pokey little dive, and don't like the look of it - unless anyone can say otherwise?
Although 1 thing it has going for it is that it's £120 for 2 nights incl breakfast.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels in the centre of London. No particular area, but it needs to be close to all the sights, shops and all the other "I'm visiting London" bits.

Budget isn't amazing, I can muster £100 max (per room) per night.

Any comments, tuppence, recommendations etc welcome.

Cheers

Might be a bit pricey but there is the thistle barbican or tower. If you book ahead you might be able to get a deal. Another nice hotel a bit further from the center of london is the Britannia international in the docklands (I really would recommend this hotel).

Cheers for that, the Tower looks really nice just need to confirm the price as it doesn't seem to add anything on for the 2nd person when I try to book

The Britannia is too expensive though :(

Have you checked the lastminute.com website? They usually have a decent range of hotels and list all the rooms they do.

The Chamberlain Hotel (Fuller's Hotels) is right by Tower Bridge too. It's pretty good (decent 4*), although I'm not sure if it's in your budget. Last year I got it for £100 or so per night at the start of July though.

Just checked and it seems that you can get it for £84/night. For that price it's pretty tempting - certainly a lot better than a comfort inn.

Thanks one and all, I shall be looking through all of these!

The best looking so far is the Thistle tower @ 164.50 for 2 nights (for both of us) but is room only, not with breakfast - which isn't a huge concern.

Thanks again.

Two suggestions:

1. Try TripAdvisor.com where you will find plenty of people's recommendations (and "stay away" comments) for most hotels in London. You can also look for hotels and rates in one go, according to the popularity order of the website.

2. Try LateRooms.com too, though it's more for late bookings than early bookings. You might find some special rates there too (although remember to look for reviews on TripAdvisor just to make sure it's not a complete dive)
