I thought there was a general consensus on NWN2 being as poor as it gets?

Don't get me wrong, I own both games and a few expansions but NWN was much more old school than NWN2 in my opinion.

I personally preferred NWN1. Preferred the interface and general gameplay, as well as the story. NWN2 certainly improved the graphical fidelity if that's what one's going for. I understand though that people didnt think the original lived up to what they expected given BG.
 
The oc in nwn2 was far superior to the first and Motb > SoU. Storm of zehir was utter pants though. Not sure about mods and all that though, never got around to trying any.

Maybe I'm biased by hindsight wrt the OC, but shadows of undrentide and hordes of the underdark were fantastic. Also the custom content was fantastic. I remember playing a lot of the custom modules. Highlights were modulessuch as Elegia Eternum and Excrucio Eternum. Also I never actually got through all of it myself, but my GF highly recommended Tortured Hearts II. Really well made, story driven campaign.

Highlight of NWN2 was definitely MotB though, agreed. I havent spent much time with custom content, so I'm not in a position to comment on that :).
 
If you're not fussed on graphics then my recommmendation is the Diablo series. Or pssibly Titan Quest. They are action rpg's but you didn't really specify.

Indeed not :eek:. Given that the OP has mentioned borderlands, that might be an excellent recommendation. It is infamously a bit temperamental in stability, but when it runs it's a really excellent game :)
