I'm up because I just finished night rounds in the engine room.
But alas, I am a false night owl. It's only 11pm here in the eastern Pacific where we are now, heading south-west on our way to Auckland after transiting the Panama canal from the Caribbean yesterday. The clock's go back another hour tonight as we go further west, in a hilariously named process known as 'retarding', which means I gain another hour in bed. Plus we need to gain another 5 hours an hour at a time over the next 17 days in order to be on the correct time when we arrive in New Zealand. Bonus.
When we return in a few month's time though, we lose those extra hours, which is a ballbreaker. Last time I did that was between South Africa and Australia, and after losing 8 hours between Durban and Fremantle in 10 days, the crew resembled the walking dead.
