Night shift to day shift

Shouldn't have to have pushed it, it's a right. Unless you have opted out of it.

In the old days railway signallers were exempt from such rules, 8 hour turnarounds were common and working more than 10 days on the trot
was allowable. Thr rationale was that in an average shift signallers would have busy times and down times, not continual grind.

I preferred that when I was at brize tbh.

Cyprus on the other hand is a killer, 3 weeks days, 24 hrs off, 3 weeks nights for 3 months. Sort of desensitises me to people on here moaning about it I suppose.

Yeah I preffered it in the UK, as it was pretty easy old life. But in Cyprus, doing the same shifts. I hate it.

Was Cyprus an OOA, that sounds hellish for a permenant post.

Seriously, I'm not even joking. I did days / nights for two years and will never do it again. I managed it but most of the time I was tired / broken / my body clock was all over the place / and I was a **** to my wife because I was always grumpy. I've since changed jobs and am a different person. I also look at the night folks around me (security guards in particular) and often they look like dead empty husks of humans. No hope, no excitement, nothing. Just existing.

Very few people can do extended periods of night shifts and live a happy, balanced life. Then there are the freaks who enjoy it, but they're weirdos so they don't count.

I love nights. Less people so work is easier, less management so can actually get work done, only have to do 4 fixed nights instead of 5 rotating days (mornin/afternoon).

More money

The long weeknds are great just wish i lived somewhere a bit more interesting as it is i end up finishing 6am friday going to manchester or london come back about 3pm monday get **** done then go to work at 8pm

Stupid ******* union voted down the 3 on 4 off shift though :(

Sunday monday tueaday 3x12 hour shifts then 4 days off.

And it flips every 4 weeks to wedneaday thursday friday.

Did mean every 8 weeks you either had 8 days off in a row or 6 12 hour shifts ina row.

Bur more money.

And i just love the idea of only working 3 days a wekk

I used to work 4 on and 3 off. But as far as I know they are supposed to give a day between shift changes.

But shifts mess you up after a while. I did it for 4.5 years. I found that once people get to about 10pm productivity just nose-dives, accidents start to happen and people just CBA.

Sister did night shift for 2, nearly 3 years. Whilst it was great as we lived together that due to her shifts I practically saw her for 10 minutes during an entire week but it was no life for her. Body isn't designed to work at night for long periods of time.

She was a right ***** but at the same time I am not convinced that was due to the night shifts.

Most people don't take well to night shifts, especially those involving physical work - surprised there isn't more regulation of it TBH as while some can handle it fine for many others, depending on the nature of the work, the impact can be worse than smoking, alcohol and even harder drugs and so on.

I did night shifts for a bit many years ago and I could never adjust my sleeping and result was a huge impact to my cognitive abilities which still isn't entirely 100% again today.

This. So much this. I did nights for 5 years (Mon-Fri, 11pm-7am ish depending on workload). Absolutely hideous. No amount of extra pay is worth throwing your life away for.

i used to change from 5.00AM starts 13.00 finish to 12pm start 20.00 finish and back again that would wipe me out by weekend and i would spend most of the afternoon snoozing.

couldn't go from day to night.

At the moment I'm doing 6 days a week 4:45am to 3pm on a 4 weeks on, 1 week off rota, not keen on it as it results in 0 social life.

In my view, that sort of pattern is worse than doing day/night shifts, especially as I'm not a morning person.

As you've said, no social life with that sort of pattern. Out of interest what time do you get up to start at 4:45? Only ask, as when I'm on my day shifts (06:00 start) I'm up for 4 so don't go out the night before and in bed for 10'ish.
