Night Sky Photograpthy

This was my first proper attempt very drunk at 1:24 in the morning, using Samyang 12mm and not really that sure what I was doing, could have done with a cable release too, as 30sec was slight bit too long. Straight out of camera no PP.

That's pretty impressive for a single non stacked shot!
Was that actually shot in the UK?

On the subject of stacking, anyone recommend any easy to use software?!
I've looked at a couple a while back but lost with so many options and the help tends to assume you know what you are doing!

My 7.5mm sanyang fisheye arrived this morning. Will be interesting to see how that performs on the Milky Way. Was only £170 so worth a try. Gets great reviews.

Fantastic picture zaf

Thanks Peter!

It was shot in Zimbabwe at the Hwange National Park, as you can imagine the only light pollution was from the campsite!

For stacking I just use Photoshop, I have no filters so to make the sea look all nice and milky in seascapes, a series of photos stacked works well.

File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack...
Layer > Convert to Smart Object > Stack Mode > Mean

STUNNING

What camera?

As Ethan said, I bought a Fuji X-T1 as a travel camera before I went on Safari in the summer.

We have a super moon coming up on 14th November everyone!

I was wondering how you got such a clean shot, I assumed it was in the UK but the position of the milky way and the clarity you got didnt make sense.

Still absolutely beautiful, wish it was possible to get the same kinda shots without stacking at home.

Another night time shot, war memorial at Knockagh overlooking Belfast.

I knew I wouldn't get many stars showing due to a mix of being 2 days from a full moon and the light pollution from Belfast (which is very visible even after editing), however I was pleased with the shot so thought I'd share, it still needs some work to lessen the distortion of the 14mm lens.

Agreed really nice! I was hoping to get out last for the super moon but, too much bloody cloud cover :(

There's a meteor shower this Friday and another on 14th Dec

Best time of the year for it, Earth crashes through the Taurids meteor stream every year between mid Oct and mid Dec. I find the Perseid shower during mid summer good too, mostly due to less cloud cover and humidity during that time of year giving clearer skies.
