Nik software suite free from today

Yes indeed its a very good suite indeed! I paid over £100 for this a few years ago and I use it all the time.

It's the only plugin I use.

I don't know if being "free" is a good thing or bad.
Does "free", now mean they've abandoned all development on it and thrown it on the digital scrapheap?
I hope not.

Wow, paid a lot for this back in the day, crazy that they can give this away for nothing but no excuse for people not to own it now. There are some very good tools in there, Silver Efex is probably my favourite.

It's a separate suite but it integrates with Lightroom/PS pretty smoothly. For free, it really is a no-brainer to give it a try :)

Is the denoiser, or the sharpening product any better than what's available in lightroom though?

Just been trying the denoise plugin (Dfine2) against LR on a particularly noisy image, and it is far, far better. Very impressed, and I expect I'll be using it as standard tbh.

Sad day, as it means they've given up on it. I paid nearly £250 for this a few years ago - it's excellent; just a shame it's probably going to stop working at some point sooner rather than later.

Yup, shame it was worth the money and this can only mean the end of it :( it may be free but when it don't work with future updates of photoshop etc there will be no support/updates.

Im going to choose to ignore how much I paid for this, and the reality that it will become unsupported.

Been using for years, a great suite of programs and better than most other similar programs. Great it's free, but like above, makes you wonder about the future...

In all fairness, it hasn't been updated in nearly a year anyway. It was already dead before it was reduced to the price of free.

Its more a worry of the installers not working with the next version of Photoshop, rather than just an update.
