Nikkon d5100

As they say the best camera is the one you have on you and imho a m43 camera is more likely to be on the o.p than a big heavy dslr. In 90% of everyday photography i would be hard press to tell the difference between the £900 d7100 and the £400 epl5 hes made a good choice in my experice of owning a dslr and a m43 camera. There are shed loads of people ditching their dslrs for m43 because the image quality is comparable but the sizes defo arnt.
He just needs to save up for the olympus 25mm 1.8 lens now. ;)

I would disagree . The olympus epl5 is a better choice than an entry level crop sensor camera. If you not fast action like sports then its a no brainer really . Lotts of pros say the same .

But we aren't discussing entry level cameras here, the D7000 is semi-pro.

I agree between somehting like a D3000 and a EM1 then the EM1 will outperform at a much higher price point, a D7000 vs an EPL5, nope.

I didn't disagree about image quality for the most part, I listed various differences. An m43 camera is just not the same kind of system, it is like comparing apples and oranges. m43 cameras are great at what they do, DSLRs are great at what they do. IQ is only one aspect to compare, there are also ergonomics, weather sealing, battery life, lens availability, responsiveness, optical viewfinders, depth of focus, focus tracking, actual print resolution, etc.

As I said, m43 camera are great, I own one, I love it, I use it a lot.It is not a replacement for a DSLR under many situations, but can be if you want it to be under some situations. It all depends what you want.

EDIT: didn't realize the OP ordered, oh well. The EPL5 is a great camera in and of itself.

I have the epl5 and the d7000 and there is not much difference in visual quality . Both have pros and cons and to be honest i was blown away by the quality of the epl5 ,The focus speed is insane and faster than the d7000 easy .

Out of interest have you used the epl5 ?
