I'm new to this DSLR world, mainly just use my phone for taking pics and vids (Galaxy S2, Now an S3).

With the news of this good offer I'd like to get my first DSLR.

Which one should I go for? and what questions should I be asking?

£55 cashback? doesnt sound like a lot tbh, you could go import and save 100's.

From amazon - it would make the D5100 £355 after cashback. Is that not a good deal?

So annoying, I bought a D5100 5 weeks ago and a SB-700 flash 2 weeks ago.

And now the cashback offers come in!!!!!!!

What are the odds on them backdating it??? :-)

BTW op, I spent many hour's/day's trying to decide which camera to get. I almost started to cry at one point, it was driving me insane.

I chose the D5100 in the end as it had more favorable reviews than the other around that price range. Apparently, it also has the same sensor as the more expensive D7000.

It really is a great camera for a DSLR newb like myself.

The D5100 seems like a sound choice for the outlay.

A question I do have is should I buy the body only? I was told by a collegue at work that the lenses the come with the camera is pretty poor and it's better to buy your own lense/glass.

With that in mind can anyone reccomend a pukka 18-55mm lense to go with the D5100?
Budget? Say £200?

The 18-55mm lens is a fine lens for a dslr beginner like myself.

Although, If I was you, (assuming the cashback applies to the D5100 body-only product) I would get the 18-105mm lens http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-AF-S-...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352035023&sr=1-1

and the body only D5100.

So, should come to

D5100 £344.74-£55 = £289.74
18-105mm lens = £182.83
= £472.57

You should be able to pick up the 18-105mm lens cheaper via ebay or digital rev (grey import) but I dont know.

If I was about to buy the camera, the above is what I would do.
