Nikon D400 Rumour Thread

cant see them releasing a d400 any time soon as the 300 is still selling well and they have just release the 700, if they release a 400 that could take sales away from the other 2 which could be bad for them possible a late 2010 release if the economy is on track to be normal again.

They will simply stop selling the D300. The decision between a D3/400 and a D700 has very little to do with the price of the body which is minimal. The fact is that you need a significant investment in top-quality FX glass. The move to FX basically entails the purchase of the 14-24, 24-70 and 70/80-200. There are cheaper alztenrtaives but then you end up with worse IQ than a good DX lens on a DX body.

Just checked on the 35 1.8 AF-S DX.
Super disappointed that it is DX otherwise I would have snapped it up.

At least it will shut up all the Canon fanboys about lack of aut-focusing 50mm primes for D40/d60. There is now the 35mm (53mm equivalent) and the 50mm 1.4 AF-S. Except a few more, 85 1.4 and some more 1.8 lenses

It should be good, im a canon person myself, but this could cause me to jump ship:)

So, we know the D400 is coming and I will not be surprised if we see it in the next week or so, together with the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX. I am also smelling another lens, maybe FX… Maybe a remake of an existing lens, but I do not have any info on this - just my own speculation. Nikon has to release something in FX, otherwise all the full frame fans will be ****** about the new DX products. If you remember, the Nikon D90 was released before Photokina, so the D400 could be released before PMA, especially since Canon is expected to release new products as well in the next 2 weeks.

Here are some more related rumors I received, all unconfirmed:

Got a report form a reputable small dealer - D400 should come with 1080p video, more pixels, and better noise. It doesn’t say much, but the point was that it should “really replace” the D300.

Someone (anonymously) sent me some good D400 lottery numbers: 15, 6, 12800, 51, and 1080. I don’t know, it could be a joke.

this is the exact text that was posted on the nikonrumors site, you don't happen to run that do you? :p

The D300 even though it now a year old is still best in it class, Nikon really don't need to replace this body yet.
it's pretty much in a class of 1 really (I suppose that you could say that the 50D is it's nearest competitor or possibly the Oly E-3) but it will be having the ground cut from under it's feet in terms of "headline features" by newer models from competitors.

Similarly Sony is expected to update/replace the A700 even though it's still a damn good camera - but it's been out 18 months now & lacks things that have become standard for class like Liveview.

It's exactly the reason why buying into manufacturers because of the body is such a bad idea nowadays.. Not only are they all bloody good, but they can change so rapidly something that made your mind up in January might switch it in April!
