***Nikon D50/D70/D100 Battery Recall***

That's pretty rubbish really. My laptop battery was recalled (by Fujitsu-Siemens), and they way they did it was to send me the replacement *before* I sent mine back. It arrived from Germany two days after I filled in a simple form on their website.

Sounds like Nikon need to do some thinking about how they deal with product recalls!

Got mine back yesterday it took 26 day's all round but that included xmas/new year holidays

The replacement battery was a EN-EL3e

Got mine back last week, but sold it straight away on the auction site as I have a spare anyway (there is a shortage of EN-EL3e's needed for D200's, and mine made £50 ;-)

Clever, I like it! :D

"We acknowledge your request for a replacement EN-EL3 battery, your request has been placed in a queue and we will contact you by phone/email to inform you when stock is available."

It appears they are indeed having stock problems with the new batteries. :(

We are pleased to inform you that a replacement battery is now available and we have shipped a pre-paid envelope to you which you should receive within 5-10 working days (depending on country). Please place the battery inside the pre-paid envelope and post it back to us, the return address is already printed on the return envelope.

When we receive your battery, we will send a replacement by return post and you should receive it within 5-10 days of receipt of your battery.

Kind Regards,

Much better. :)

Recived this email from Nikon today.

Even though you may have already checked the batch number of your EN-EL3 battery in your camera and found it not in the list of possibly defective batteries, we ask you to read this email carefully and to recheck your battery as further batch numbers have been found to be affected in addition to those identified previously.

Has anyone sent off theirs recently, and how long was the wait?

I only just received the pre-paid envelope and I'm debating whether to send it now, or later on when I definitely won't be needing the camera for a while...

I was thinking of buying a new battery as a spare whilst I wait for the replacement, but I don't want to have to send a 2nd battery off to Nikon either.
Any suggestions as to what is a 'safe' buy?

EN-EL3a and EN-EL3e are O/K

I purchased Hahnel HL-EL3 (Nikon) £29.99
Equivalent to Nikon EN-EL3 as a spare i find it as good as the Nikon.

I havent heard any complaints about any 3rd party batteries. I got 2 for £16 inc del from the USA. They appear to be just as good as the Nikon one.

Ha!

I just today got sent an email about this by Nikon!

Not too long since it was first found out then

Got mine back today, and its an EN-EL3a not an EN-EL3e. Does that mean its not suitable for the D200? I was considering flogging it for a nice profit. :(
