Nikon D5300 for £350 legit?

Just thought i'd update to say I emailed Hdew and they sent me a manual straight out.I'll definitely use them again in future when I next upgrade.

The screen protector I bought is also great. Went on very easily with just the one bubble that was easy to press out. Seems a little expensive for what it is, but with it on I can't even tell its there and seems like it'll stay in place for the life of the camera so probably worth it. Just adds a bit of protection for when the screen is folded out.

Now I just need to decide on what lenses I want for it. I know I want the Nikko 105mm micro, but would also like a decent walk about lens that has VR. Was thinking of the 16-85mm as they go for about £200 ish on ebay. Just wondering if its much of an upgrade over my 18-135mm kit lens as i'd have to sell that and my D80 and still add a bit to it.

Got the camera today. I thought they had sent me the 18-55mm kit, but it turns out they have just put the camera in the wrong box, or removed the kit lens. Is that normal?

Another thing I wanted to ask you is did you get a manual with your camera? I have found one online, but would have preferred a proper manual.

Sorry to keep pestering :o

Need to get some sort of screen protector I think as i can see myself scratching the lcd.

This is exactly what you get with grey:
  • They split a kit lens box up and sold someone else the kit lens
  • The manual is missing, either when they split the box up they lost it or it is actually a returned camera/refurb/black market without manual
  • Same goes for the LCD protector, the camera should come with one.

I would very carefully inspect the camera for usage, check the shutter activations, inspect warranty and try to register the camera.

Missing a manual, LCD cover and the wrong box is really not a big deal but I would be annoyed if I had a pre-owned/refurbed/returned camera passed off as new because you can buy refurb cameras for less than a new grey item.

I checked the shutter count after you mentioned it in the other thread and they were right. Pretty sure it was brand new as you can usually tell when its not.

They sent me manual, so I'm happy. Not too bothered about the box as resale value wont be affected too much by that I dont think, plus i'll probably keep this camera for a long time anyway.

This camera has a flip screen, so i dont think they even do a clip on protector for it like they do with the static screened cameras.

Very happy with it anyway, just wish I had opted for the 18-140mm VR kit now as I really want to try a VR lens to see what difference it makes. It would have been a lot cheaper to buy a kit rather than a seperate lens and body. But i'm tempted to go second hand as they are like half the price of new on ebay.
