Nikon D60

Why do you need to change to Canon to get a 10-20mm?

What I was thinking

Also, is there really much point to this camera? If it's going to be more expensive than the d40x then for the features it has, you'd be better off picking up a 2nd hand d40.

I've had my d40 for a month now and the release of it's replacement doesn't bother me now I've seen what little features it has over the d40.

Although I admit the anti-shake in the stock lens is a nice addition.

I need to change to Canon/Nikon/Pentax/Sony to get a Sigma 10-20mm. I've got an Olympus E-330. There IS a whole bunch of 4/3 lenses, but some of them cost crazy money and there is deffo not as much choice as owning a Canon or Nikon. I was watching the new consumer model releases from both companies closely, as it's likely to be one of these I'd go for. (I do see official refurb 400D kits go cheap tho)...

So, still missing out on what, two, maybe three half decent lenses? Oh the humanity.

I never said it was missing out on anything apart from an AF motor, it'a a erception thing howmany times have you seen a thread on the internet where someone asks for an entry level DSLR and someone says 'don't get the D40x as it has no AF motor so you lens selection is limited' this puts people off as there is instantly a doubt in the nebies mind over which lenses are compatible. Every other entry level DSLR ha one so there is no argument on price. It just seems silly to have such an obvious negative too confuse new camera purchasers.

Also have a look around there are plenty of people using very expensive glass on entrlevel DSLR's people have realised it's the glass that really matters not the body so much. I'm not hugely up to speed on Nikon stuff but you regularly see canon 400D's with £600+ lenses on the front

What are they going to call the next one? Play it easy with D60x?

That would be if they added extra resolution to the sensor. It would be D60s if they added a bigger screen (I think thats how it works) But the next new model would have to be a erm.. D30? D40MkII? Either that or they would have to come up with whole new naming convention.

I'd happily argue the D40x over the 400D, but have to say that unless you have a ready supply of Nikon-fit lenses the 450D looks like the clear choice over anything up to the D80 at the moment.

Jesus...Nikon hurt themselves further.
Goodbye budget market, what fools.

I don't get that.
The D60 replaces the D40x, not the D40.

It just builds on the features of the D40x, plus adds the all important 'dust cleaning' that beginners would want in a dslr.

The bigger mystery is why introduce a 16-85 VR:confused:

Looking at the D60's spec gets me mighty excited for the D90, comparing the D60 and the D300 (while also looking at how older models compared), i imagine the D90 would be as follows...

Same sensor as the D300, 12.3mp, with iso200-3200.
4fps @ 65 JPG
3" Live view screen
Anti-dust system
No weather sealing
£600/£700 rrp

To introduce a decent kit lens instead of something that goes from sort-of-wide to sort-of-tele?

It's a strange one to have in the range. The 18-55 kit lens now has VR. If you wanted wider why not go for the 18-200 VR which wont be much more expensive than this one. RRP of the 16-85 is around £400.

Another thing that puts me off is that it is slow at 85mm f5.6:confused:

The 18-70 kit lens is f4.5 and is generally regarded as a good performer.

I presume it will be considerably cheaper than the 18-200, though—and it's wider too.

I suspect is going to eventually replace the 18-70mm. Its quite wide, to quite telephoto, its AF-S, its got VR. In other words, it ticks all the boxes for a mid range walkabout kit lens. I wouldn't be supried to see this coupled with the D90 when its released. Im still more excited by that 60mm macro lens though. :)

not sure the point of this camer compared to my D40x. Only difference is the kit lens having VR and dust cleaner. I'd just buy the D80 or a D200 if i was to upgrade. If i was buying new agaun the D40/x would be the cheaper option with the same functions.

Will just confuse new users i think
