The only other wide primes available that are cheaper are not as good. (old 20mm f2.8 D and 18mm f2.8 D)
I got the 20mm f1.8 G as it was quite a bit cheaper and lighter than a distagon 21mm f2.8. See if you can find a used one? Also, the old sigma 20mm f1.8 was replaced recently by a 20mm f1.4 Art which is a massive improvement but it has the fixed hood and bulbous front element problem.
You won't get better value for money than the Nikon 20mm f/1.8 G, it's a bargain. everything else is way inferior AMD you would be best looking at a zoom.

At 20mm you will get an uneven effect. The biggest issue will be with blue skies.
For other occasions, e.g. reducing glare and boosting saturation & contrast you will just find the effectiveness somewhat uneven across the frame. Its not a problem, but you miss some of the benefits on the edge for example. So the extra green klush foliage might be slightly less green on 1 side etc.
