just requested my MAC code / told to email, but i politly told(lied) that i had was told by another adviser that i could do it over the phone and was doing when i got cut off, he promptly issued me with my code

i also asked him about the throttling that was going on and he said that the only port they throttle is port 25 on emails ,hmmmm. so i pointed out everyones problems that are on adslguide, and it was suggested it could be a technical problem to which i replied but if i download from say microsoft it is full speed, he didnt answer to this

seems they are still not being upfront with this or it really is a tech problem, seeing as it started on the weekend i will give it untill next weekend before i use my MAC code just incase it is technical (i know i am being nieve)

i was also quite supprised how quickly i was answered (20 seconds) i was expecting a flurry of calls this morning.

Oh - people complaining of their Nildram service?
I didn't use my ADSL for most of the weekend as I went away on Friday evening and didn't get back until quite late yesterday evening.
I was however downloading from a couple of sites at 780kb/sec without issue last night.
What problems are people reporting on Nildram?

Theres a big thing on adslguide about it, seems they may be throttling certain ports so far from what i gather its 80/119 which seems to be giganews.

Oh dear - I don't do much newsgroup work and the ones I do visit are non-bineary, but still annoying I'm sure.
I thought maybe they were throttling P2P traffic which I wouldn't have any problem with as I don't use it and it might even get some people moving onto other ISP's and not leeching my bandwidth :)

I'll go read through the threads at Adslguide.

They are throttling all protocols it seems, NNTP is throttled to around 80Kb/s and HTTP gets throttled after 30min then 60 min of usage. My PRTG logs show this. I've requested my MAC code as well, especially as i'm on the maxdslpro product which is £75 a month!

I don't P2P.
My Nildram connection is still being excellent - no web slow down at all.
I've just been downloading from various websites at 750kb/sec
Played a little EQ2 earlier and that was as good as ever.

Maybe I'm yet to feel the Nildram "shaping" but I'm certainly staying put.

Well obviously if shaping is in place other applications they deem more worthy/critical are going to remain largely unaffected, such as HTTP.

It's just sad ISPs are reduced to doing this now. It's not in spirit of the internet at all.

Shaping is the reason I left Plusnet - you got shaped if you went over 2/3 of your allowed allowance. Throttling, even within the paid for limit is not on in my eyes. I don't want to be treated like a child. If I go over my limit, then I pay for the extra, I don't want to be throttled to 1Mbit, then 512K progressively until I reach it in an attempt to stop me from reaching it.

Nildram have a limit in place and I don't want to be throttled within this. I don't use p2p much, but I do download Linux iso's a lot (recently) as I'm trying to learn. If they are going to be throttling this (uses Bittorrent), then downloading a 4.5GB iso will take much longer than it does already and this is not on, especially if I am within my correct allowance.

For me it's more a matter of principle than anything else as this is the only p2p I do.

I just moved back home and before then Nildram seemed ok. I thought they were only getting grumpy if you were downloading during the day, which was the whole point of the 12->8am download window.

I'll have a look on adslguide about this as its likely i'll need adsl again and it will be damn annoying if nildram have become pants.
