Hello All

Is anyone having issue with the speed of their nildram\pipex connection.

If you head over to http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=nildram there is nothing but speeds issues and people leaving left, right and center.

I am having issues my self, my connection is 1mb and this past 2 weeks has only been syncing at 184kbps with the exchange which is a joke.

I have phoned CS and i may as well talk to the wall infront of me, they just get you to run the bt speedtester which never works and returns the same results as adslguides and the connection status page on your control panel. I have e-mailed them 3-4 times and got no reply. I will be moving ISP if they cant give me an answer or get it sorted by the end of the week.

Just posting this to maybe see how many nilly/pipex users on here are having the same problems.

I'm on Pipex 1mb and online speed test say 935.8 Kbps. Which is around about what id expect but im also not happy with pipex.

They charging me £23 for a 1mb service when i can just go to NTL and pay the same for a 4mb service. Pathetic.

Also had so many downtime problems and all pipex say was "get my pc checked out" lol

Can't wait to leave them.

We have recently implemented traffic shaping measures in an attempt to prioritise services used by the majority of our users. We will be releasing a more detailed statement regarding these traffic shaping measures in the near future.

At the moment we have not been given full details on the way that this traffic shaping system will function, but please feel free to address your concerns and we will document them and answer them when we recieve more information.

Kind Regards,

should have warned customers it was going to happen

I had my suspicions quite a while ago that pipex started throttling video and other long downloads after a certain amount of time and it was confirmed recently over at adslguide, seems to of been done without any real warning to as far as I can tell.

Err, have you got that guys permission to post his email here? If not, you should remove it (Or at the very least his name) immediately.

named removed to protect the guilty - however the mail itself was posted n ADSLGuide and I am sure the mods here would remove it if it were remotely dodgy.

It's a shame the majority don't all use p2p/torrent applications isn't it really...

But the whole Pipex group (pipex/nildram/f2s) are now all well sort of run by the same company/entity and are slowly but surely merging....

F2s got bought, is no run through the pipex network - with traffic shaping. despite claims of the company going to still be run by its own management.

Stay very clear.

Be* seem to be at the top - as long as you can get LLU services....

Otherwise easynet LLU...

Otherwise - Zen? Demon?

failing that Cable...

Alex.

Nildram are now capping AND shaping? I wonder how long it will be until ISP’s start throttling web downloads to 50kb/s whilst having a 5gb cap and still have the audacity to tell us we are on their amazing 8mb package

Seriously, what is the point of broadband if you aren’t allowed broadband?

hmm is that why my 1.2gig file download stopped at 90% 3 times ! :/

im getting really bad pings in wow, and usenet for me is capped at 119, but port 80 works fine

i am now connected at 184k and no sign of it going up, :( i used to be connected at 1mb. I phoned them 2-day for the 50th time and told them to get a move on. Going to move for sure at the end of the week if it hasn't got any better.

This was always on the cards following the acquisition by Pipex, some of you were living in denial. There's really no reason to stay with Nildram anymore with the capping, shaping, appalling support & communication and ongoing World of Warcraft problem.

Yes but where the hell do we move, i just noticed plusnet do the same along with many other ISP's. So come on tell us where we can go.

The only alternative I can see is NTL/Telewest, or maybe a LLU service, all of the BT MAX products are a joke, nearly all are capped very low or throttled to hell. But NTL have always been referred to as "NTHell" so not sure I want to make a massive change to them

Cable depends on area. Do a bit of research on what it's like in your area before giving it a go. In my area, and many others, it's awesome but in others it's diabolical.

lmfao :p

Funny enough after another phone call this evening, my connection seems to be fine again. I am synced with the exchange at 1.1mb a sec. Wonder how long it will last.

Pitty i cant get cable in my area or LLU services.

I have speed issues at the moment but this is down to my exchange being at RED on the exchange checker. There was supposed to be an upgrade on the 12th but it still hasn't been resolved/nothing has yet been done.

I didn't know about shaping - a reason I moved from Plusnet in May. If the shaping is too heavy, I could well be off. I don't use P2P, newshosting or any other p2p filesharing type program/download activity. I only have web downloding so I'm not sure I'd see any problem but I wouldn't like streams and such to be throttled in any way. I pay for up to 8MB (4.5Mbps is what I get) and I expect that on all activities - they have capping in there already so why implement shaping?

It's worth pointing out that isn't entirely Nildram's fault (though they should be poking BTw with a stick of course).

I've been getting web downloads not finishing more often, plus theres the increasing amounts of throttling as well, it sucks. :(
