Ninja Gaiden Black Save Problems

My first x360 died recently :( and I got my replacement back the other week. Now I fancied a quick blast on Ninja Giaden but my save file seems to have corrupted since?! My HD stayed with my whilst I got a new 360 sent back, and as far as I can remember it was fine just before the first 360 died. Is there anything anyone could suggest?

Was only up to chapter 5 but would rather not have to do it all again. :(
 
A little off topic, but do enemies drop more essence from a ninpo or from a big combo ?

Just interested to know the best way to gather essence as I going through hard at the mo. and I need all the karma I can get. On chapter 13 at the moment and still haven't worked it out ! :o
 
They don't drop more essense from ninpo kills or large combos. They *do* drop more essense when they're killed using the Ultimate Techniques. The best way to get lots of essense is to use some to kill one guy with an Ultimate Technique, use the essense he drops to kill someone else with an Ultimate Technique, and so on.
 
Ok - gotcha. Although I had thought I noticed that if you kill loads of enemies with a combo of say aroung 50 in one go, you tend to get more essence than if you just kill them without the combos. I'll try the ultimate techniques technique to get loads of essence. Thanks for the tip.
